I flew Skybus this weekend, I know some reviews have been posted but thought I'd share my experience too. The flight down was pretty good- it was very easy to check in (I did it online and printed my boarding pass). When you get to the Columbus airport there are 3 line up areas in front of each gate, and you line up based on your group number. First come first served in line. The attendants gave regular announcements and were very organized and everything went very smoothly. I did pay the extra $10 for priority seating although I didn't need to, the plane was plenty large enough and they actually deplaned from both the front and the back, so it wouldn't have been any extra wait time. The flight was nice, you do pay for your snacks and drinks but I had to do that this summer on American Airlines and Delta both and the snacks were cheaper on Skybus. They say a couple of advertisements over the PA system and take a cart of merchandise down the aisle, but nothing pushy. No advertisments all over the plane as I had expected. The stewardesses were super friendly too.
The flight back was the complete opposite though. I was leaving at 930pm local time from Biloxi, but the plane was delayed for an hour. No big deal. However, there were no gate attendants the entire time to answer questions or give updates (ie, estimated landing times for those picking us up at the crack of dawn). The departure time changed several times on the monitors so it was hard to guess and give Ryan and good time to pick me up. There were no clearly marked line up areas so everyone was mashed together in a huge mob. The plane landed and deplaned and there still wasn't a gate attendant to organize things. Finally a girl in a hoodie and jeans showed up and started scanning boarding passes. The people who had paid for Group 1 seating started grumbling (I would have too) and then she finally called out for passengers based on group number. I was in group 2 that time, and I was still able to have my choice of window seats in the 2nd half of the plane.
I slept the entire flight so I have no info on that, I was exhausted. The landing was alright, they did only deplane from the front and not the back as well so it took a while to get off it, but eventually I did. Everything else was fine with the trip.
My thoughts:
Definitely pays to check in online as early as you can, to get the 2nd group seating. Wouldn't bother with the 1st group though unless on busy holidays.
I ended up having to rent a car to get to New Orleans and back since Skybus only flies to Biloxi, so it evened out to what I would have paid for a cheap flight on another airline directly there. If I could have gotten the $10 ticket, or didn't have to rent a car, it would have been much more worth the deal.
hth!
Re: Skybus review
Hope you had a nice time!
My inlaws swear that the seats are narrower...whatever...i think they are just getting fatter and looking for a reason to complain...and if that is the best they can do then that is pretty lame!
Someone asked if there was curbside check-in...I believe the answer is no. You can pay for a print your boarding stuff at home and then go straight to the counter to deal with your baggage. I personally found the staff at the check-in counter to be very helpful and friendly...one of the best customer service experiences at the airport ever...so with any luck, they would help you.
Ok...sorry for my mini-rant (i at least felt like i was ranting)...I can't wait for my next trip in May...and hope i feel the same about skybus as I do now.
I SWEAR the seats are narrower too, LOL! It is not a big deal at all on the shorter flights, but when we went out to San Diego I was uncomfortable both ways (and I'm not a larger person.) but it's true if that's the biggest problem I have, it's still a deal. All the staff has just been the nicest.
