So frusrated!

I love DH to death, but I can't take his snoring anymore. Last night I was so frustrated, I almost cried. I am a light sleeper and can't sleep with his snoring. I tried sleeping on the couch, but couldn't get warm or comfy (we don't have anywhere else but the floor).

So, how did I get some sleep? Ear plugs with ear muffs on top, right next to DH. Yes, I slept with ear muffs on! It sucked, but I actually got some sleep (even though I could still hear a bit of snoring).

I don't know what to do. He has bad allergies/sinus problems. He's taking Zyrtec D and a nasal medicine to help relieve congestion, but none of that is helping. He's always snored, but it has been really bad for about a month. I can't help, but think that I am not the only one sleeping bad. It has to be interrupting his sleep, as well.

Any ideas on how to help him?

Re: So frusrated!

  • Does his position effect his snoring?  Like when he lays on his side it goes away or does he always lay on his back?

  • My DH used to snore but if he props his head up on two pillows, it stops.  Could you try that? Or what about those Breathe-Right strips?

I feel your pain!  Before DH started sleeping with extra pillows, I couldn't do it either.  I would get so mad at him but I know he can't help it.  I hope you get some relief soon.
  • He could have sleep apnea and that is something he should see his doctor about. Maybe he needs a breathing machine for the night? Or maybe see an ear nose & throat doctor about his sinuses. There could be something that needs more attention than just allergy medicine. And if he is snoring, he probably isn't in the deepest state of sleep he could be in, which will eventually cause him to be tired during the day and wear him out.
  • Def make him goto the dr.  My hubby used to snore SO  bad - i thought i was gunna kill him.  I was not getting any sleep and i was grumpy all day everyday.

-I finally convinced him he needed to go get it checked out for the sake of our marriage - he went to a sleep clinic and they diagnosed him with an acute sleep apnea and talked to him about wearing a "snork mask" (thats what i call it)   They also suggested that he work out more and lose weight - he took that route and now he doesnt snore anymore! ...plus he is all buff and sexy :)
My life/ our life has completely changed.  its amazing how much impact snoring can have...  now if i could get my dog to stop snoring...

Also - i dont know if you have those construction grade earplugs - but those help too.
  • Thank you for the suggestions. I will definitely try and get him to a dr.
  • You could also have him try a Neti Pot. I just got one at Whole Foods ($16.95) and the salts are $8.95 for a decent sized container. My mom saw it on Oprah and then I read about it online. It helps clear congestion, helps with snoring, keeps your nasal passages moist (this is good, you are more prone to getting sick when they are dry). It's super easy and takes about 5 minutes to do both nostrils. I've been doing it once a day for a few days and feel like I breath so much better. The first time I did it, I told my DH that I didn't realized I was congested! Google it and see if he'll try it!
