Pub Recommendations?

Anyone know of any English pubs?

If not, recommend your favorite irish pub. We already know about Brazenhead and O'Shaunessey's and are willing to drive wherever.

Re: Pub Recommendations?

  • I can't remember if Old Bag of Nails is English or Irish.

Chris and my favorite Irish pub in Columbus is Fado, which is at Easton next to the PF Changs and across from the Barnes and Noble. We are obsessed with the cheese dip and wedges appetizer!

  • I'm pretty sure that the old bag of nails is english, yummy.  Maybe I'll talk DH into taking me there for dinner tonight.
  • Yuck. Im not a fan of Old Bag. The quality of the food has just gone down hill from when they first opened in my opinion, but I have only been to the one in Arlington.
  • There's that new pub that just opened at Creekside in Gahanna. It was going to be a Brazenhead, but then the owners got into a fight with each other, and now it's totally separate. It's called Buck Mulligan's or something like that. I haven't been there, though, so I don't know what it's like.
  • Random comment - I think my taste in pub food is different than other peoples on the board. I love O'Shaunessey's food when someone else said to avoid it, and I am always disapointed in Brazenhead when other people recommend it highly...

  • We love Fado at Easton.  DH's fellow english/irish/scottish soccer fans all meet there for games, etc, so that seems to be a good vote of confidence in the food and atmosphere.  A lot of those guys are from those countries, and the rest usually have travelled over there several times.
  • P.K O'Ryan's in Worthington across the street from Old Bag of Nails.  The resturante is in the front and the pub is in the back... Good food & good beer!  =)

  • I used to LOVE the Rose & Thistle but they closed around a year ago. :(

I really like Fado (Irish) when I want fish & chips.

    There's also Claddaugh's - but it's Irish too.
  • Manday, I feel the same way. I think that's how it is for all type of restaurants though! I may love a place but others hate it, and there are places people hate, but I love.  To me, Fado has the best food of any of the pubs in Columbus. Claddagh's is OK, Brazenhead is meh, and O'Shaughnessy's is yuck.  but that is just my opinion.  Plus, we were in Ireland this summer and people warned us how the food was going to be awful. We loved everything we ate over there...I think maybe we just picked good places, but who knows? Taste is very subjective.

Not sure if guys know about this site, but check out Yelp.com. It's a great sight to check for restaurant reviews...plus shops, hotels, etc get reviewed.

  • Fado= Boxty= YUMMY!  The cheese dip and wedges PP recommended.  The wedges are the boxty- which are potato pancakes.  SOOOOO good!  And I love O'Shaunessey's too!  They have the best turkey sandwich ever!
  • I would suggest Fado at Easton or Bag of Nails. The fish and chips are my absolute favorite splurge (fried), but not all locations are created equal. It must have something to do with the cooks. I think Worthington has the best. I agree with pp about Arlington....we haven't had much luck.

Also. the bartender at the Bag of Nails Worthington makes great bloody mary's!
