Interior decorator/designer needed

DH and I moved in July, and I'm just now getting to the decorating part of things.  We have a big, oddly shaped great room, and we can't figure out how to configure it so that we get a nice flow, good use of space, and it's still aesthetically pleasing.  I would love to hire someone who can come, look around, and make suggestions on how to arrange the furniture (and what furniture to buy).  I'm not interested in the person doing the work for us -- I just need like a one-time consultation to get ideas.  We're more than happy picking the furniture and fabrics out ourselves, just need suggestions on where to put everything.
Does anybody know of anyone who will do this?  And what the going rate would be?

Re: Interior decorator/designer needed

  • My sister just graduated from Appalachian State in December with a degree in interior design.  She is currently looking for a full time job, but I'm sure would love to help you out.  Anything that she can add to her portfolio is helpful.  I am obviously a little biased, but I think she does a great job!  Let me know if you are interested and I will pass her info on to you.
  • Realtors who are good at staging rooms can probably help you too.  AmberOH probably can help you (she is on here).

I have a great room and it took me almost 4 years to figure out the best way to have it.  And I just did that this weekend.  Mine has a dining area and couch/tv area.  I have a sectional sofa and put the tv in the front corner by the windows.  And I got a book shelf and sofa table to split up the rooms a little bit.

My Home Bio has the OLD picture of the room, and I am taking a NEW picture this week.

  • My aunt works at an Ethan Allen in Biloxi, but that's the kind of thing she does. I mean, of course, they are going to direct you to buy Ethan Allen furniture, but they will come out to your house and give you ideas of arranging stuff. I think there's an Ethan Allen in Worthington on High St. and on Main St. in Reynoldsburg.
  • Page JulieR. She works at a design place like that.
