researching treadmills - anyone have one?

If so, what brand is it?  Did you buy online? Did you try it out in a store first?

I'm looking online and seem to be finding what appear to be good deals, but I'm nervous about purchasing one online, without ever having tried it out.

Thanks for your help!

Re: researching treadmills - anyone have one?

  • This won't be a huge help, but I'll offer it anyway. :)

We bought a Sole elliptical online after trying a similar one at D!ck's. I researched them a lot and the Sole name kept coming up as one that was really sturdy and reliable. I know they also make treadmills, but I can't speak to those. I really like our elliptical though. It doesn't ever feel cheaply made or wobbly.

What I would recommend is going to places like Sears and Sports Authority and D!ck's and that store I can't think of the name, but it has the word Fitness in the title and trying out different brands there and researching them online, because you can always get them cheaper. Sometimes even the store itself will sell them cheaper on their websites than in the store.

    HTH!
  • We have a Precor and love it.  It's commercial grade and I wouldn't get anything else.  They're pretty pricey - ours was around $3500, but such a good investment if you plan on using it daily or just about.  We bought it at The Fitness Store on Sawmill (by Hobby Lobby).  They have a bunch (all top, commercial brands) to try out.  If you even a semi-serious runner, I would definitelty suggest running on a treadmill before purchasing it.  No treadmill is alike and they will help you find the one that suits you best. Good Luck!
  • We got our treadmill from Sears 3 years ago a ProForm I think.  I am glad I didn't get the cheapest but unlike most people I use mine 3-5 times a week and it's been great! if you think you'll use it a lot then spend a little money on it it's worth it!
  • I bought our Noritrack last year just after Christmas, from Sears. I think it's the 2200 model. It was a model they were going to discontinue so I was able to get a steal of a deal on it for $900.  I absolutely love it.  It has up to 10% incline, adjustable impact resistance, a fan (I didn't think this would be a needed option but I love it now that I have it), a spot where you can insert walking/running program disks, and can track your heart rate.

  • Thanks so much for the info ladies.  I think I will go to the stores and try them out.  I want to be sure I'm getting something sturdy.  I plan to use it around 5 days per week so I need a good one.

    Thanks again!
  • hey thanks! I think we'll check it out this weekend.
