Re: Poll: High School Reunion

  • 1. What month is/was your reunion? All reunions for Upper Arlington fall over 4th of July, either the weekend before or after depending on what day the 4th falls on.

    2. Was it formal or informal? very informal

    3. What percentage showed? I'd say about 65%

    4. D.J. or Band? D.J. - we were at frog bear wild boar

    5. Party Favors? No favors...just a few appetizers, but people were only concerned about the booze...

    6. Door Prizes? Nope

    7. How much pp? I believe it was $25...more if you paid at the door

    8. Ho was the money collected? We sent our money in with the order form that was mailed to us, and the president of the class put your name on the list for the door.
  • I didn't go to mine, but I helped my DH host his at our house. (Under 50 in his graduating class)

    1. What month is/was your reunion? July

    2. Was it formal or informal? informal

    3. About what percentage of the graduating class would you say showed up? 70 percent

    4. D.J. or band? DJ

    5. Party favors? CD's of the music from the time he graduated and bead necklaces of the school colors (like mardi gras beads)

    6. Door prizes? We had a gambling theme and had friends run the tables for us. 1 penny equaled 1 dollar. Some people won money, the money that the "house" won we donated to the school for a scholarship in a students name that passed away from their class.

    7. How much per person? We didn't charge any money.

    8. How was the money collected?
  • 1. What month is/was your reunion?  July

    2. Was it formal or informal?  Semi-formal

    3. About what percentage of the graduating class would you say showed up?  About 20%

    4. D.J. or band?  Both, I believe

    5. Party favors?  No

    6. Door prizes?  No

    7. How much per person?  $50

    8. How was the money collected?  You could mail a check or pay with a credit card online (they used a service for it called Capital Reunions, but they may only serve Virginia).
  • Hi, I went to my 10 yr reunion 2 yrs ago.

    1.  It was in late september, the same weekend as homecoming

    2.  It was informal, at a bar in Chicago where they rented a space

    3.  Maybe 30-40%

    4.  Music playing in the bar

    5.  We got keychain bottle openers that said Class of 1996

    6.  no

    7.  I think $50/person

    8.  You paid ahead of time (sent check to one person in the mail)

  • 1. What month is/was your reunion?

It was in Sep on a Saturday (actually it was the day of the OSU vs TEXAS night game back in 2005).  It was our 10 year

    2. Was it formal or informal?

    Informal

    3. About what percentage of the graduating class would you say showed up?

Less than 20% mostly likely b/c it was planned on the OSU game night

    4. D.J. or band?

Nothing.  We had it at Game Works at Easton.  Lots of TV's with the game.

    5. Party favors?

    Nope

    6. Door prizes?

    Nope

    7. How much per person?

Was supposed to be $15-$20 (cannot remember).  This was to cover a private room and some apps.  In the end, because of the low turnout, we just set up camp in the bar area and paid for ourselves (money was returned)

    8. How was the money collected?

Through a website.  We have a pretty active alumni website, so it was pretty easy to pay.
  • I didn't go to my 5th, but it was on July 4th weekend, which I though was really nice.  My 10th is going to be this fall and I'm a little upset.  I don't have any other details, though, sorry!  Best of luck to you!
  • 1. August

    2. Informal

    3. 25%

    4. iPod

    5. matchbooks

    6. No

    7. $75 (way too much and the reason most people didn't attend)

    8. sent by check ahead of time and collected at the door

I've also helped my DH plan his class's 5 and 10-year. We've found the cheaper you make it the better. People will still have fun regardless. His was only $20 and they had plenty of appetizers, but nobody ate them. I think people view the drinks as being more important than the food. The one thing I hated about mine was that the location was not conducive for mingling. The reunion was split up with several different rooms - each one pretty small. and the music was so loud you couldn't hear the person next to you. DH also did a "cookies and milk" type reunion the day after the main event. Where he invited everyone back to the high school for a tour to see how it has changed. People brought their kids and really seemed to enjoy it.

  • Haha - mine is this summer.  I went to an all-girls school, so it's probably a little different.  The event will take place at the high school since the nuns live next door and it's easier for them just to meet their old students in the cafeteria.
Details - August, informal (everyone will wear a twin set and a skirt), probably 30% will show up since no spouses are invited, No DJ or band, no favors, no prizes, $20 per person, light dinner served, money collected at the door.  The highlight of the night will be a tour of the new gymnasium.  Whoop-de-do.

We went to my husband's anti-reunion this winter. Apparently they organized a big formal reunion at a hotel, but they we going to charge $50 per person and only have a cash bar, and it was on a bad weekend college sports-wise, so literally no one showed out of 700 students.   Some of the defectors organized an anti-reunion reunion, and that seemed to go well.  Evite invitations, held at a nice bar on the day after Thanksgiving.  No cover charge, no dinner, no decorations.  Just a big bar - they didn't even rent it out. And the bar gave reunion-goers one free drink coupon because they were happy to have so much business.  About 200 people showed up throughout the night.
