I posted this on the travel board, but didn't get many responses! Has anyone been to Cancun before? We're going this month, and are interesting to see if there are any excursions/restaurants/shopping we shouldn't miss or if there are any to stay away from! TIA!
Re: Cancun??
I love love love Cancun!
Try Lorenzillo's for dinner, and make sure to get a seat overlooking the water. Senor Frogs is also lots of fun.
Xcaret (ecological park with snorkeling and lazy rivers, etc) is very nice if you want to rent a car and drive or I bet you can take a tour there.
Have fun!!
I think the place she is talking about is Xcaret. They also have one called Xel-ha. They have natural lagoons with snorkeling etc. I think the first one has swimming with the dolphins and such. They both have admission fees, but you can probably search both of them on-line and see which one sounds interesting.
Chichen-itza has the largest ruins there, but its a whole day trip thing. I thnk it's over 2 hours by road (we took a plane from Cancun when we were there). It really is stunning, but depends if you are into that sort of thing for the long trip. You can look that up too.
Have fun, I'm jealous!
I haven't been in a few years but I can highly recommend Xel-Ha. There are so many interesting fish and other marine life in the park it's amazing. If you're not into that Cozumel is a bit south of Cancun and is supposed to have really great conditions for scuba diving and snorkeling.
Isla Mujeres is a ferry ride away and is perfect if you're looking for a relaxing day away from the crazyness in Cancun. The town is full of little shops and restaurants.
The only ruins I've been to are the ones at Tulum. They're very interesting and right off a beautiful beach.
Mexico is by far my favorite place in the Caribbean. Hope you have fun!
