Cost of rewiring/electrical work?

The post below got me thinking...  Our microwave is on the same breaker as all the lights on our first floor, our basement lights, and our upstairs hallway light.  It's freaking ridiculous.  Whenever you run the microwave, the lights dim.

Anyone have any idea how much it would cost to separate out these onto separate breakers?

Re: Cost of rewiring/electrical work?

  • Electricians generally charge by the hour, and are pretty expensive.  I think you can expect $50-$75/hour and most will charge a minimum.

Cost will depend on how hard it is to get the wire from your breaker panel to the location of your microwave.  It will have to be fished through the walls which can be time consuming.
  • We've used Werner Electric twice and have had a great experience both times.  The guys is super nice, they've cleaned up after themselves and pretty reasonably priced.

I'll try and find the number.  If you email him and tell him what you need, he'll email back a quote.  Both times with us, he was within $10.00.
