We have to put our kitty to sleep tomorrow :(
Our beloved, crazy 5-year-old cat was diagnosed with end stage kidney failure yesterday after losing weight and several days of lethargy and not eating. She gets so anxious and traumatized being at the vet's (even though they're incredibly caring & gentle) and didn't eat at all or come out of her carrier when she stayed overnight for the blood tests. Our only other option is an intensive 3-8 day inpatient treatment that would require daily sedation so they could hydrate and medicate her and at best, if it worked, would buy her a few more months before she declined like this again. She has eaten a little since she got home yesterday, but has spent most of the time curled up sleeping, and just looks so sad. After a lot of talking and tears, DH and I have decided that the kindest thing to do would be to have her put to sleep. We are just heartbroken and in shock.

I am so sorry to hear about your kitty!
My kitty Cosmo had kidney failure in October, actually I posted about it here. We determined that he ate some lilies that were in a birthday bouqet that I received. After having iv's for 5 days he pulled through, but not after having problems with his potassium. I was set to put him to sleep but we tried the iv's again and he regained kidney function. He is still healthy...knock on wood. I know how you are feeling. Maybe you could try the iv's at home? We had to give Cosmo sub q's at home for the first week or so.
Having to make the tough decision to put an animal you love to sleep is so hard. But know that you are making the right decision for her. Watching Cosmo when he was sick broke my heart.

I am so sorry!
