Recs for bachelorette party

Suggestions, por favor!! I've just learned that I will be hosting a bachelorette party in February.  The invitees will all be from out-of-town, so it's up to me to figure out what to do for the party.  The bride-to-be loves dancing and drinking.  Most of the attendees are about 27 years old, so I guess I'm looking for a fun place, but with a little older crowd.

The Arena District is the only thing I can think of.  Is the Brewery District still fun?  I haven't been down there in years.  My aunt told me about some swanky two story dance club, but I forget the name.  Any ideas???
I wish Howl at the Moon were still open! That would be perfect.

Muchas gracias. (Don't know why I feel like typing in espanol today.)

Re: Recs for bachelorette party

  • The two story dance club might be BOMA (Bar of Modern Art).  It is an old church that was remodeled into a night club.

I would also rec. Sugar/Spice/Park Street Patio.  All are on Park St. and are owned by the same people.  Spice and the Patio have food; Sugar is mostly dancing and house music; Spice has lounge areas, dancing, a big patio and 4 bars; and the Patio is set up like a neighborhood bar inside w/a huge patio outside--they usually have a band.  If you let them know you are hosting a bachelorette party they will reserve tables, provide a champagne tost, get you on VIP lists for entry to all 3 venues and possibly work out a drink discount.  Go to www.spicebar.net for more info.  I think it will give you info and a contact.  We went there for my bachelorette party and it was fun.

    GL!

  • In the Arena district I would start off at Spice (martini lounge) then walk down to Sugar (dance club) later in the night. (There are a lot of 20 somethings).

The two store bar/dance club your Aunt was talking about is probably BoMA...I LOVE that place! It is called the Bar of Modern Art and has a very fun atmosphere and has a little more sophisticated crowd. Very fun and I highly suggest going!

  • LOL! Jinx Emily!
  • hehe...jinx right back jody :)
  • BoMa is not my favorite place...I guess I just haven't had a blast when I have gone and the cover charge is too much when Im not enjoying myself.

Ive seen a lot of Bach. Party's at Bar Louis lately. Love that place! No cover and it's easy to bar hop since it's in Arena. You can also call ahead and reserve a table if you are going to have a large group. HTH!
  • I guess the Arena District is most likely going to be your best bet. Brothers, personally, is where I liked to go when I lived in Columbus for dancing. Drinks are cheap, the dance floor is a decent size, and I like all of the music they play. Plus no cover!  Bar Louie might be a good place to start...you could eat and drink there and then bar hop. Park Street Patio is the other place in the Arena District I like.

Never been to Sugar, but I hate Spice. You can read my Yelp review of Spice: http://www.yelp.com/biz/spice-bar-columbus#hrid:cBAE5sPX1Zn4vsctXhne-w

This weekend my goal is to make a "Where the Party's At" in Columbus list on Yelp. If I do, I'll post a link for you.

  • Haha, I'm also hosting a bachelorette party in February for mostly out of towners. How funny! Anyway I've hosted many a bach party and agree with the above posters - Arena is the way to go. Sugar/Spice/Patio are great suggestions and so is Bar Louis. Those are the places I plan to hit with my bride-to-be! :) Have fun!

Oh and btw, I noticed you are a prosecuting atty - so am I - do you work in Franklin Cty?
  • There was a Howl At The Moon here????  Oh Man!  That was my FAV. place to go out in Chicago.  I can't believe they had one here and it's gone.  Boo.
  • YAYAYAYAY! (that's my very excited yay)
Awesome suggestions.  I love that Columbus has fun places all in one area so you don't have to stay in one place al night.  This is going to be fabulous.

BuksFan - we have too much in common.  Depending on the dates of our parties, maybe we can share decorations.  :)  I'll probably have an overstock of penis shaped balloons.
I am a prosecutor in Delaware County for the juvenile division.

Howl at the Moon was the BEST.  There used to be one in the Brewery District.  We used to have a blast.  People would pay a fortune to the piano players just to hear the OSU fight song played instead of the ND or Michigan fight songs. haha
