haircut/highlight recs for the twelve billionth time...

I know this is asked every other day but I need your help.  I fear that my hair girl is leaving for good.  She has just had her third baby so I think she may be choosing to SAH instead of returning to work.  So, I need a new hair person.  I have close to $300 in Penzone's gift cards to use and I would love to get my hair highlighted again.  I am willing to pay for up to the third level (Director).  I have very, very thick hair that can be quite frizzy and unruly so I would obviously prefer someone with a lot of experience with my type of hair.  I am also willing to drive to the other side of town if it means a good experience (I used to drive from the south end of Hilliard to Polaris for my hair girl).

Thanks for all your help!

Re: haircut/highlight recs for the twelve billionth time...

  • I LOVE Jason at the Wedgewood Penzone.  He did my hair for a little more than a year before I got married.  He does the best color ever.  I had to switch after the wedding though because he was too $$$---he is a Sr. Director.  Now I go to Kara at the Wedgewood Penzone.  She is a designer (?-the 2nd level).  She also does a great job.  I have a new shorter hair cut for the first time ever and I have never received more compliments on my hair.  I like it so much I called and left her a VM to thank her :)
The only person I would avoid @ the Wedgewood Penzone is Trinity--boo!  She is so mean that she made my BM cry the day of my wedding.  I actually saw her roll her eyes @ my BM when she was explaining what she wanted.
  • I see Meredith at Penzones in Gahanna.  I REALLY like her.  I have been with her for over 3 years.

She is open and willing to try anything!

    Have fun!
  • I've been to Danica at the Grand Salon twice and really like her.  I have crazy thick and curly hair and gave her free reign on my hair this last time and LOVE my cut!  I can't speak about highlights/coloring, though, sorry!
  • Well, this won't help you if you want to stay with Penzone's, but I've been seeing Terra at the Grove City Kenneth's and she has been great.  She has given me some of the best haircuts I've ever had.  And I also get my hair colored with her.
  • Lucy is a director at Polaris Penzones and is AMAZING!!! Love, love, love her! I don't color my hair anymore, but she does it all and is just great! She also did my hair for my wedding and for my MOH and her twin sister :)
  • p.s. I have super curly, thick hair also and she has really helped me manage it...I can go from curly to straight in no time without a problem now :) She works wonders!
  • I get my hair cut by Raven at the Penzones in Gahanna.  I have never used her for color/highlights though b/c I'm very picky about who does this for me.

I did a TON of research on colorists and have found the best in Columbus to be Ty at McCann and Co. in Dublin.  He was willing to speak with my old hair colorist in Chicago and get the exact formula from her.  They only use Redkin products.

  • I second Raven at Penzones in Gahanna - she's been cutting/coloring my thick curly hair forever (I think 8 or 9 years now?). She does a great job, and is very good about listening to what you want and making great suggestions.
