Writing a Will

How do you start this process?  Can you write one on  your own?  Should you use a lawyer?  I have no idea where to start. I've been meaning to do this since we've been married but don't know the right/wrong ways to do it.

How did you do this?

Thanks!

Re: Writing a Will

  • You need to do this with a lawyer, it only costs around $150-200. Unless you know someone who is a lawyer, they might be willing to write up one for you cheaper :)
  • Once I receive my inheritence I plan on using one of our Nestie's. Her name is Michelle and I swear her Nestie name is Buksfan. I might be wrong. My brain is a mess these days!
  • we went to a lawyer...cost about $200 and she did all the paperwork for a will and other documents like a living will, etc.
  • You can do it yourself, however, I've heard of many people having issues with it holding up in court, so I'd go to a lawyer.
  • Danica's right - Buksfan is the Nestie lawyer.  She did all our work with the renting out of our condo (lease, LLC, etc), but I think her main focus is estate stuff.  We'll probably use her once we figure everything out with the new baby   :)
  • You should really use a lawyer for something like this.  I'll probably contact Buksfan myself in a month or so to get ours written up.
  • Hi ladies! I do practice estate planning (as well as real estate, business and tax) and would be happy to help anyone draft a Will or other associated documents such as a health care power of attorney or living will. Haha that sounded like a commercial! Anyway feel free to email me at michelle at yourohiolawyer dot com and we can chat! :)
