XP: Hello from Minneapolis! Hotel recs please!

Hi Columbus ladies!

My name is Sandy and every year my husband Joe and I drive to Florida and like to stay in different cities along the way. Well, this year we've decided on staying over in Columbus! We'll be seeing The Lion King when it's playing there at the Ohio Theatre (at least that's what I think the theatre it's called).

Anyway, these are the hotels we're looking at. If you have any feedback on them or have any other suggestions, I'm all ears. We're looking for a place close to the theatre and under $170. Thanks so much!

* The Blackwell
* The Westin Columbus
* The Columbus, a Renaissance Hotel
* Hyatt on Capitol Square
* Doubletree Guest Suites Columbus

Thanks again!
Sandy :)

Re: XP: Hello from Minneapolis! Hotel recs please!

  • We've stayed at the Westin, the Hyatt and the Columbus, all are great. Another place you should look at that's really unusual is The Lofts!!! They're incredible!
  • I've only stayed at the Blackwell...very nice! It's on the Ohio State campus, and about 7-10 minute drive to the Ohio Theatre depending on how many traffic lights you hit along the way :)

    Of the others you have listed, I have heard good things about both the Hyatt and The Columbus. Both are walking distance to the theatre. Around The Columbus are a few dinner options, including Latitude (in the hotel) which I have heard good things about and Due Amici, which is nice.

  • The Lofts has this great little package that includes dinner for two at Mitchell's a great steakhouse right by the Ohio Theater and then, there's champagne and chocolate covered strawberries waiting for you when you get back to your room!
  • I second the Lofts.   DH and I stayed there on our wedding night.  It is a really neat hotel for Columbus.
  • I LOVE the lofts. DH and I stayed their on our honeymoon and we went back on our 1yr anni. The hotel is right next to the arena district in case you want to go out for a drink or a little entertainment. The ohio theater would only be about a 5min taxi ride from the Lofts. Here's the website

  • I second The Lofts! We stayed at The Lofts for our 1yr wedding anniversary and loved it! If you are into very modern hotels this place is awesome. It's in a really old building and has been completely renovated with exposed bricks to give it that old feeling. It's walking distance to all the great restaurants and clubs in the Short North and Arena District.
  • p.s. I love your dog! I have a cocker spaniel who looks just like yours named Walter :)
  • I'll put in another vote for the Lofts, and I've also stayed at the Renaissance and the Doubletree and both of them are very nice and actually closer to the Ohio Theatre than the Lofts. But either way you are probably looking at a short cab ride. As the previous posters said, the Lofts is a very unusual and unique place - true to its name, it has an NYC loft feel with exposed brick and plumbing and 15 ft ceilings. That is actually my favorite place to stay in downtown Cbus, but you might be looking at closer to $200/night. Have fun!
  • I agree with the Lofts hotel!  Definitely will give you the Columbus feel... I would just scratch out the Blackwell since it is the farthest away.  It is a nice hotel, but if you arent in Columbus very long, I would stay close to downtown...
  • You guys  have been VERY helpful! I'm taking at look at The Lofts now and it looks so different than anything I've ever seen.

    Thanks again for all your help! :)
