Can anyone offer any feedback? DH really wants to one or the other and I just wanted to see if anyone could offer pros/cons.
Better Stations?
Better Pricing?
Better Units?
We'll need to look into one of the units that he can use while working out - if anyone has suggestions on that, too.
TIA!!!
Re: XM or Sirius?
Chris and I both have Sirius in our cars...for the two of us, it is around $20/month. I think for one it's maybe around $13/month or something like that. I'm not completely sure though. Personally, I love Sirius. We have it because we like Howard Stern. With Sirius, we get some college football games (it depends on the conference), college basketball, NFL, and English Premiership soccer. I don't know about the NBA because I don't care about it. I know for sure that XM has college football (not sure what conferences though) and MLB. MLB is the main reason I hope the merger goes through between the two
I love many of the stations on Sirius. There is something for everyone. There are entire channels dedicated to artists like Bruce Springsteen and Elvis Presley. Also, there is the ESPN Radio channel, so I can listen to "Mike & Mike in the Morning" and all of the ESPN radio shows.
As far as units, I got Sirius as a gift from Chris three years ago for my birthday, so I didn't pick out my unit. He did a great job getting one that is small and matches the interior of my car. There are a decent number of models to pick from and they range in size. Chris has the "Sportster" model and his actually can detach from the holder so if we had a home docking unit, we could use it inside the house.
If DH is a big football or basketball guy then Sirius is the way to go. Sirius has exclusive deals with the NFL, NBA and NASCAR.
However, if he's more into MLB, NHL or IndyCar Racin then XM is the one to pick.
Otherwise I think the pricing and music stations is pretty comparable. We love our Sirius. We've had the same Sirius Starmate unit for several years now and it's been great.
No, Melissa . . .I totally appreciate it!!
Ladies - do either of you have opinions of the talk radio that is offered?
Some stations I can think of off the top of my head:
Howard Stern
ABC News
FOX News
Talk Left (obviously left-leaning pundits)
NPR
Sirius Patriot (conservative pundits)
CNBC
ESPN Radio
I think there might be a BBC news station as well. I think I saw that flipping through once...
I'm not any help as far as talk stations ~ I just love all the different music they offer.
I listen to Sirius online here at work...I forgot about that feature.
Here is the list of what XM offers currently:
Erin - you rock!!! Thank you much!!!
DH got Sirius for me about two years ago and I haven't listened to terrestrial radio in about that long. I listen to a lot of talk radio during the day. Although right now I'm listening to classical Christmas tunes.
I love the Martha channel - they always have something new and interesting if you're into food or entertaining at all. In the afternoon I listen to the political talk guy on OutQ because he's not as inflammatory as some of the other people. They also have two channels of NPR, talk Left and Right stations, Cosmo, Family...and on and on. Like the music there's something for everyone. If I had to go back to listening to the same five songs all day on WNCI I might die.
XM has a deal for $77 for the year...Sirius won't even deal! We have both. Also, Harry got me the Sirius that only works in the car. He has an XM unit that has a boom box, home docking and car kit!
Whichever you get...make sure it's not just for the car unless the deal is hard to pass up (he pd $20 for mine).
I'd love to have it in the house and would not mind paying $13 a month, but for the few hours a in the car, it's a bit high!
I vote XM...but we do like the Nascar and Howard!
