Anyone with snow tires?

I'm in the market for some after my scary ordeal yesterday and I have a few questions.

1.  Did you just buy the tires or did you buy wheels too?
2.  How many did you buy?  Just two for the front or all four?
3.  Do you leave them on all winter long?

Re: Anyone with snow tires?

  • 1) i have them mounted on an extra set of wheels
    2) i have a full set (4 tires)
    3) yes they stay on all winter, mine have been on since early november, there is no harm in driving with them on if there is no snow but... they are SUPERB in the snow... i will likley put on my "summer wheels and tires" in april

what kind of car do you have?
  • 1. Tires and wheels 2. All four 3. I had them put on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, they will stay on until we're done with snow! They are wonderful to have, but they perform MUCH much better in wet wintery weather than in dry weather. I would not leave them on year round cause they will wear out too fast and they are not made for dry roads. Mine are on an 02 Jetta sedan. All 4 tires and wheels cost around $580. Having them switched (balanced and aligned) at each season is about another $100 or so at Discount Tire. I think it's worth it. DH drives 60 miles round trip every day and we take that car back to MD sometimes in the winter too. Hope I helped!
