Vaccination recall

So DH called from work and told me about the vaccine recall by Merck.  DS had his 2 month shots 3 weeks ago, and DH wanted me to call the pedi to find out if DS's HiB vaccine was part of the recall (DH is a pharmacist at Children's, so he's a bit paranoid about this stuff, I think).  I called, and sure enough, DS got one of the recalled vaccinations!  Plus, I had already called this week to ask about the injection site -- there's still a tiny bump under his skin where the shot went in.  The pedi's office said they'd call after they talk to the dr. about it, but he's not running a fever or showing any sign of infection (and it was 3 weeks ago, which seems like a long time!).  But I still worry....

Just thought I'd tell you mommy's out there to call the pediatrician if your DC has had vaccinations recently!

Re: Vaccination recall

  • Do you know which it was? My niece is 6 weeks old today and just spent 4 days at Akron Children's with  a kidney infection. She got her first shots last week so I wonder if there is any connection?

  • I think she's in the clear.  It's the HiB vaccine, which is normally given at 2 months.  I don't think it's given before 8 weeks.  And if there is a reaction, it will be at the site of the injection (the thigh).
