Parking at the Palace

Hello!  We're headed to the Palace Theatre tonight to see Sweeney Todd and after taking about 45 minutes to get out of the parking under the statehouse for the Ohio Theatre, I'm looking for parking that isn't crazy expensive that maybe isn't as popular or something for the Palace Theatre.  Anyone have any good suggestions?  I know about the parking garage attached to the Leveck Tower, but I assume it'll be crazy-packed with people, right?

Re: Parking at the Palace

  • i was going to suggest the lot under the state house...i've never had issues there.

what about across the bridge...over by COSI...or is that too far?
  • Well maybe under the statehouse wouldn't be as busy for the Palace since there's one attached that people might opt for?
  • i was just there a couple weekends ago for the bb king concert. it was practically sold out and we had no issues getting in and out of the leveque tower. and it was only $5. totally worth it in my opinion.

  • As a 4 year broadway season-ticket holder, I got some tips for you.....

Arrive early.  Can you have dinner nearby?  The closer to the bottom of the Leveque garage you are, the better, because it literally empties from the bottom up, entire levels at a time.

Park facing out.  There's a lot bigger chance that you will have someone let you out if they know it won't take you forever to back out.

Regardless, even if you're at the top, you'll be out in 25-30 minutes.  Probably not worth the walk from the statehouse, time-wise.

  • I'm go jealous you are going.  I have a ticket for Friday (Julie are you going?) but there is no way my 9 month pg butt is getting up there or sitting in those tiny seats. Boo!

BTW, I always park in the garage next to the Ohio Theatre for their shows, and as long as you get there early enough to be on one of the lower levels you can get out in minutes.

  • I am going on Sunday matinee.  OWU's Christmas party is friday, so we swapped our tickets.  They sent me front row balcony, so I'm thankful for that!   :)   Not that I'd be terribly squished at this stage, but in a few months, my 3rd row seats are gonna suck!
  • Personally, I HATE parking at the Leveque Tower (we've being going to the Broadway Series shows forever, too).  If you can get there really early so you can park on one of the lower levels, it's not too horrible, but I actually tend to be able to get out of the Statehouse or City Center garages a whole lot faster (and it's only a block's walk to one of the statehouse garage entrances).
  • As a vetern Broadway season ticket holder, I can tell you we have never paid for parking downtown.  We always park at a meter, which are turned off on Sundays when we have our tickets.  But they'll be turned off by the time your show starts tonight also.  They're only enforced until 6.  Some might be until 8, so you might have to throw in a quarter or two depending on what time you park.

For the Palace, we usually park on Marconi, near Broad, which is about a 1 block walk.  For the Ohio, we usually park on 3rd or 4th.

Parking on the street is great because 1) it's FREE and 2) there is no traffic to deal with.

  • We are season ticket holders too. We're going Sat/Sun (one each day, cause no sitter). We always park at City Center. It's a little walk to the Palace, but it's not bad. It's only $1 and we never have to wait long to get out.
  • City Center is no longer $1 on the nights of shows!  It sucks! It's now $3.
