How far in advance from their hopeful move do people start looking for a house?
Is there a good website for looking at crime rates in the columbus area, as neighborhood specific as possibe?
Is it common for a real estate agent to judge you by appearance, job, etc on whether they want to work with you/can work with you?

Usually at least a few months.
I've got all the websites necessary to find out crime rates and such listed under the buyers section of my blog!
Absolutely not. I have worked with buyers and sellers of all backgrounds. If you are a ready, willing and able buyer, and good Realtor should love your business and not pre-judge you! GL!
