Christmas Lights and Babies
Ok Ladies, I have to be a Debbie Downer here and I'm sorry if I am offending anyone here but I've been seeing more and more photos of babies with Christmas lights around them.
It is dangerous to plug in lights and wrap them around your baby for 2 reasons:
One, Christmas lights are notorious for being faulty. Don't believe me? Just do a search online for recalled Christmas lights and thousands of entries come up. Most of these being for electrical shock. In fact, last night my DH got shocked twice when he was putting up lights (2 defective strands from WalMart).
Two, Christmas light bulbs have a very high lead content. Now I assume you're not letting them chew on the bulbs, but just touching them and then putting their hands in their mouths could be dangerous.
Ok, I'm of my soapbox and I hope I haven't offended anyone, I just want the babies to be safe this holiday season.
Cassie (who thinks the photos are really cute, but too much of a risk to try)
Re: Christmas Lights and Babies
I might not have done it if i had been aware of the shock factor..but we survived and i have my holiday picture idea planned for next year...if i can remember it when the time comes and it doesn't involve lights.
And i thought it was the coating of the wires that had the high lead content...and so long as they aren't chewing on the bulbs/wire (which would be an added danger considering the shock factor), and you wash them I doubt the exposure would be that dangerous since it is such a short time and you cleaned them up afterwards. But I understand your worry.
Now, check out my siggy. Merry Christmas!
