Recommend your diaper bag...

I originally registered for the JJ Cole System Diaper bag based on a recommendation from a friend who has a 1yr old.  But when I was reading reviews online some girls said that after a couple months it was too small and could rip/tear easily.  Could you recommend one that you use and love?  Thx.

Re: Recommend your diaper bag...

  • One of the MOMs recommended the bag we use which is the lands end big bag that looks/opens like a doctor bag. We like it, but it is big...but it also holds a lot of stuff.
  • I have the Fleurville Sling Tote and LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!  It's pricey, but WELL worth the $.  I recommended to a friend and she loves it too!

It is just the right size and gives you a place to hold everything.
  • Skip Hop's bags have been raved about. I think I'll probably end up buying one of them.

  • Check out the Skip Hops in person before you buy.  I looked at them and they are REALLY small.
  • I do agree with that aspect! I saw the black Duo at Babies R Us last night, and it was smaller than I expected it to be. That's fine with me, because I don't want a huge bag.
  • I honestly don't like leaving my house looking like I carry a diaper bag.  :)  so mine tend to be smaller, and I am not the type who carries everything in the world around with me.  I have one that is similar to a messenger bag, but there is no flap on the top - it zips.  I find the ones with the messenger flaps are a pain when you need to grab something quickly.  the ones with longer staps are best if you wanna hang it over the stroller's handlebards.

I have this one too, which actually has short straps.

I also have a cute all black one I got at teh Carter's store and I get TONS of compliments on it.

You really could just carry a large purse.....I never bring anything but two diapers, a wipe container, a bottle (with water already in it), instant pre-measured packs of formula (I stopped BFing a few months ago) and a few toys.  Maybe a receiving blanket.

HTH!  good luck - for some reason, diaper bag selecting before I had Jackson was really really hard!!!  haha :)
  • they have a decent selection of skip hops at target too!  :)
  • It really depends on what you want out of a diaper bag. I tend to be a minimalist, am not a fashionista and have a SAHD so needed a masculine one, even for my little girl. I love this one for every day use: http://www.landsend.com/pp/LittleTripperDiaperBag~89159_-1.html?bcc=y&action=order_more&sku_0=::RED&CM_MERCH=SRCH_00001&origin=search We also have a backpack style Columbia one for travel/overnight at grandmas but I'm not thrilled with it. If you are leaning towards one that is a bit more fashionable or if you tend to take a lot of stuff that's a whole other ball game! I think if I end up with two in diapers I'll probably move up to the Do-it-all that Meghan recommended, but I also use cloth diapers which take up more room than paper.
  • I have a messenger bag from Carter's and it's WAAAYYY too small.  At first I was a minimalist as well but with Ethan's colic, we have to be prepared for a major meltdown at any time.

At any given time I have 5-6 diapers (this kid pees like a champ), wipes, 2 bottles (with water already in them) premeasured formula container, a spare outfit and bib, and  burp cloth (thanks acid reflux), his swaddle blanket, his white noise CD, his tummy soothers stuff along with the dropper to dispsense and a small 4 oz bottle with water in it to mix it with, extra paci's, and a blanket.

This kid needs to outgrown this colic thing soon...
  • My favorite diaper bag is a messenger bag that I got in the men's section at Target. It has enough pockets to put any diaper bag to shame (including 2 side compartments for bottles) and it's made of durable, washable canvas. I like it because it doesn't scream diaper bag! And the strap is adjustable so it will even fit over a shopping cart handle.
  • By the way, I posted about my diaper bag obsession on shellterrific and lots of people had reccomendations. Here's the link:

  • I carry one bag...I don't carry a seperate purse.

I like and have carried both my pottery barn bag and my larger VERA vera bradleys totes

    however

my new love is the petunia pickle bottom bags!  I have a major bag issue and they are so cute!

I now own three!  Babystyle has several on sale and they don't discount them very often.

  • The JJ Cole was small for me.  I have a Stork Sak.
  • I haven't used it yet, but mine is from Pottery Barn Kids. I had a hard time finding one that I liked in color and style and one my DH wouldn't mind carrying around. I really like it because it has so many pockets inside, has a changing pad, it's bigger in size, doesn't cost a fortune and it has bottle insulation on the sides.

  • If you want a custom made bag I am redoing my clients website, the prcies aren't right and it's not finished yet but here you go:

  • The one i got is pricey, but came highly recommended.  It's by JU JU BE, and I got it in "Green Envy".  It's black with green accents, and it can be an over the shoulder back, or a backback in seconds.   We wanted something unisex that both DH and I could use happily, and it goes with our grey & green stroller/carseat set from Chicco.

I ordered mine off Ebay, and when I got it last week, my first thought was that it seems kind of SMALL... but... I haven't put anything in it yet, so I have no idea yet if it will be absolutely perfect or a disappointment.   But it looks nice, has lots of pockets, looks very easy to clean...  so we'll see!!
