what to give daycare provider for Xmas gift?

I need ideas! We just started using her this month so we don't know her all that well, and I don't want to offend her by giving cash that may seem too small if other families (she watches 6) give like a week's pay or something. Her two high school age girls also help out in the afternoons after school, but I haven't even met one of them yet. Do I get them something too?

Re: what to give daycare provider for Xmas gift?

  • We send Connor to a center but I made the girls in his room two or three kinds of cookies last year and will probably do the same this year.
  • I don't know about in home day care, but I worked at a center a few years ago and got lots of ornaments, candles, and gift cards from my kids.  Do you know any of the other families?  Maybe you could ask what they're getting her.
  • I have read that you give them one week's pay.....but I am now a home daycare provider so I am -hoping-  hahahahaha
  • i dont do a weeks salary. my employer doesnt give me a weeks worth of salary as a gift, and I see myself kinda as her employer. she gets paid holidays and such though just as I do.

we get her a $50 gift card to somewhere, though this year i am sure she'd prefer cash.

  • I guess it all depends on how you look at it and how you use your sitter. I'm off for two weeks for Christmas break. Because of the aggreement that was made before we started with her, we pay for holidays whether we use her or not. So she will get paid for those two weeks. That is her Christmas bonus!! However, because we love her so, she will get a $50 giftcard somewhere.
  • I worked in a childcare center part time for 4 years(I was the one the parents rarely saw).  I got everything from baked goods, gift cards, to bath and body works.

My friend does in-home care and she said she got similar gifts but not as expensive as the hospital center.  I honestly think it depends on your relationship with the daycare provider and what you feel comfortable with.

I think she would be happy with anything that you gave her.

  • My son is an infant/toddler suite with 9 teachers.  There are only three teachers that take care of the six kids in his section, but all nine of them have taken care of him at some point and I love them all.  I was thinking of doing gift cards for them (it is a multicultural center and not all celebrate Xmas), but would $10 Target gift cards be too cheap?

I thought that I would bake some treats for them too.
  • Hi! Nathan has 4 teachers at his learning center. I got them each ornaments last year and I think I'll do the same this year. I was thinking of doing cookies or candy instead this year, but not sure. If he just had one provider, I would get something more expensive. I think gift cards are the way to go - somewhere like Easton would be great.
