Visiting Columbus...Please reccommend activites and restaurants

We're coming for BIL's graduation this weekend.  Please reccommend local places to eat and things to do in Columbus.  When I travel I like to visit places that are unique to that area rather than eat at and shop at chain stores.  Any ideas for activities on Saturday would be greatly appreciated also.

I've searched online, but time and time again I'm proven that Nesties know their area best!

Thanks for your help!

Re: Visiting Columbus...Please reccommend activites and restaurants

  • Any Cameron Mitchells restaurants are great! I highly recommend his newest adition, Marcellas, on High St in the Short North. You'll love it if you're a fan of Italian. It's pretty close to campus as well. You will absolutely want to make reservations in advance.
  • You can walk around the Short North and check out galleries for things to do (too bad you missed Gallery Hop).

As far as places to eat, I would also suggest trying any of the Cameron Mitchell restaurants, or check out Lindey's, Barcelona or G. Michael's in German Village.

If you're looking for shopping places, check out Polaris Fashion Place or Easton Town Center.  Easton also has the Bodies exhibit if you're interested in seeing that.

    Have fun!

  • I would definitely recommend the Short North for you to check out. there are a lot of cute boutiques along High Street worth checking out, as well as art galleries. Plus there are some really cute restaurants and bars down there as well. Betty's, Press Grille, Rosendales, The Rossi, or The Burgundy Room would all be my choices for places to eat. Novaks and the Short North Tavern are fun places to go for a few drinks.

I think Easton is nice, but it is a lot of chain restaurants and stores, so if you are looking for more unique places, I wouldn't really recommend Easton.
  • Wildlights at the Zoo are going on now, usually a pretty neat experience!  What part of town are you going to be in?
  • Everytime we have company in town they always want to go to Easton.  It is our outdoor mall but it's really fabulous!  They have some high end stores that you don't see everywhere, GREAT food places and the atmosphere is just wonderful, especially time of year!

Personally, I like the Powell area for unique shops.  There are too many up there but in downtown powell they have antique shops, vintage/trendy shops, home decor/crafty/vintage shops, a cupcake shop, and various others.  I always find something there at one of those places.  It's North of Columbus by about 20 minutes, off of 270 and Sawmill Road.
