Any sewers or quilters?

Where do you buy your fabric?  Is online a better deal??

Re: Any sewers or quilters?

  • I always buy mine at Jo Ann's. Most of the time they have 50 percent off sales and you can also buy rements for half off too. I just made a quilt for my brother and all the additional fabric I used from Jo Ann's.
  • I don't quilt but my best friend does and she sware by JoAnn's.  She said that their prices might be higher than Walmart of something like that but their quality is so much nicer.  Plus they have a great stock... She loves going in there and buying their bundles of fabric.  Usually the pieces aren't very big but it's a good deal for the price.  When you are quilting something it works out great because they are grouped in "similar color packs" and that's nice.

  • I normally buy fabric for sewing projects at JoAnn's, but I have bought all my quiting fabric from The Glass Thimble in Clintonville. It's great because ALL of the fabric is appropriate for quilting. www.glassthimble.com. Looks like it has changed hands, but I hope it's still as fabulous as it was! It's an old house (I think two together actually..) and every room is a different "theme" of quilting fabric. Also, Dublin now has a shop - Red Rooster Quilts I think. Right at 33/161 and Frantz Road, on Corbins Mill.

Never tried online - personally I like to see and touch fabric before buying. But I've never bought a ton, so it didn't bother me to pay more in the store, if that's the case.

    Good luck!
  • Ditto JoAnn's, although if you are doing any window coverings or other heavy duty home stuff, Fabric Farms Interiors is awesome. I bought some of the fabric for my curtains there and they were so helpful. I had never sewn valences like I was planning to do and didn't exactly have a pattern but they helped me figure out how much fabric I needed and gave me tips on how to do it, etc.
