Most bizzare story heard in bathroom

I just overheard this lady in the bathroom who was talking on her cell phone telling someone the most bizzare story....

She said her SIL was in the parking lot of some store and saw a gift card on the ground.  She picked up the gift card and left.  A couple weeks later she decided that finding a gift card is like finding money on the ground and couldn't be traced so she used it at the store to buy something.  Next thing she knows, she's arrested and is told she has to spend 2-6 months in jail for theft.  She has kids (at least one teenager) and could miss the prom and graduation.

Isn't that bizzare?  Even the lady talking on the phone said there must be more to the story.

Re: Most bizzare story heard in bathroom

  • OMG!!! There must have been a heck of a lot of money on that gift card for her to get arrested! That is sooo crazy...
  • That's really crazy! I have never heard of anything like that before. There has to be more to the story.
  • There has to be more to the story! That doesn't sound right and they wouldn't send you to jail for that, would they?!?!
  • hmm, that is weird. must be more to the story...

Here's the part I can't get over...this woman was talking in the bathroom on her cell phone?? agggghhhh, that drives me crazy.

  • Yeah, and about something so personal too!
  • Exactly! It just seems the oddest place to talk on the phone.
  • That is really strange. It seems like there would have to be more to the story, or otherwise it would be a hard charge to make stick.

I think that talking on cell phones in public (or I guess any) bathrooms might be my new pet peeve. I was in Wal-Mart a few weeks ago and some lady was carrying on a crazy cell conversation in her stall. When one of her friends came into the bathroom and started mocking her for talking on her phone while people were standing in line, the girl said, "Well, I *am* using the bathroom, I'm not just hogging the stall!" Yuck! Who wants to be on the phone with someone who's using the bathroom?

  • I don't even know how that's possible!  I mean, the person who lost the gift card would have to know the ID number on the gift card in order to be able to report it stolen, because gift cards don't have names on them.  What are the odds of someone knowing the ID number from a gift card?  And even if they DID know the ID number, I don't think you can get arrested for using a gift card you found on the ground.  I mean, yeah, it's not yours and you should probably turn it into the store, but honestly, how many people would do that?  I guess it's stealing, but they wouldn't put you in jail for a first time offense like that.  Damn.  Can you hang out in the bathroom and try to find this woman again and get the rest of the story???  ;o)
  • Sue - I do hang out in the bathroom often due to Baby A and his affinity for dancing on my bladder.  I did scope out the lady so I will look for her again.  :o)
  • I purchased two gift cards from old navy yesterday...they asked if I wanted gift receipts?  I thought that was odd but she said if they were lost or stolen they could be tracked.

    Is that a possiblity?

  • Are you serious??  That's crazy!!!  I'm surprised that they are that trackable.  Some stores are crazy about getting the persons name that they are going to and others are so lax about it...

    How strange!?!?!?!

  • I know with a lot of places you can go online and register your gift cards (so you can re-coop whatever is lost/stolen.) The thing is, the person who lost the card could have been mugged, and reported her purse stolen (and if the card was registered that would have made the situation a much bigger issue.) As opposed to just losing it. (Yes, I like to play detective, LOL)
