Homemade gift ideas?

I know we have a lot of crafty ladies on here and I'm wondering if any of you could share maybe some websites or books or something where I can get some ideas of presents to make.

Last year I made a small jar of salt scrub for all my relatives and gave them a few professional wedding photos. They were both a big hit, and I'm thinking going homemade is the way to go this year too.

One thing I should say: I have tried and failed at scrapbooking, so that is not an option. TIA!

Re: Homemade gift ideas?

  • This may not be a fit for everyone, but I made homemade Kahlua one year that was a hit.  Basically you buy Vodka and some vanilla beans and let it stew for several weeks, then drain it and pop it into some fancy bottles with a sprig of vanilla bean.  Tastes great, looks pretty, reasonably inexpensive.

A friend at work made cranberry vodka one year for gifts.  Also very popular, and pretty!

In my circles, most everyone has everything they want.  Booze is always a good gift. :)
  • OK, so it's been a long time since I've made this and the recipe has a few more ingredients, like coffee (duh) and sugar, but it's still easy and you can search "homemade kahlua" for recipes.  :)
  • the girls over on the D&R board are making really pretty monogrammed tile coasters as gifts. there's a few pictures floating around i'm sure you could find some

i like the booze idea as well [;)]

and not to be a broken record but i really do use etsy all the time for ideas. i have several things picked out to give as gifts from there. you could get some great ideas and make them yourself.

  • Great ideas on both counts!

I really like the booze idea, because although most men can and should use salt scrub and lotions for their dry hands, they just won't. So I have a feeling the salt scrub was not used by half the recipients last year. So maybe I can make teeny little bottles of the vodka stuff and then get Etsy ideas for the women!

I'm going to have to find those tiles you mentioned too. That's a really great idea. Thanks so much!

  • If you look at Jan's craft blog, she made adorable ornaments, which I think would make a great gift or at least a part of a gift.  I think they're beautiful!
  • aw you made me blush! thanks allison :*)
