ok, trying to find something for our new TV

we bought a flat screen 42" TV, and now I want a piece of furniture to put it on, not just a stand.  Would like a dark brown and something that will look good w/our antiques if we move and everything is in the same room

Am I making sense?

I'd love any suggestions or anything you find or know of!?!?!!

TIA!!!

Re: ok, trying to find something for our new TV

  • I would check with Goree's Furniture Express in Opelika. They have some really good stuff there. We have bought several things from there including our great room furniture.

We have one of the giant fireplaces/mantle type thing...I think we got it from Lowe's or Home Depot that our flat screen TV is on. This is the only picture I can find of it...you can't really see the TV but you get the idea.

  • I went to Goree's yesterday (not easy to find either, as you feel like you're going to someone's house!!!) and I found something but it was like $700!!!!  The other one I liked was ok, but I wasn't thrilled w/it.

    I didn't think about Lowe's/HD, I should try there.

I looked at Ashley but haven't heard good things about them.

I can't see the pic Sad

  • I am trying to find the same thing for the new house.  I am really wanting an antique buffet but haven't found anything yet.  There is this dresser at Angels and they took the 2 bottom drawers out and put in shelves for your DVD player and other stuff and it is really cute. Only like 150, but the base is a distressed red and the top is wood.  Super cute though.  Ashley's quality is ok, just not heirloom quailty and for putting a tv on it you should be more than fine!

    Heather that is really cool!

  • Once again our style/tastes are the same!!!  That's what I want, more of a piece of furniture/dresser style.  I might have to go to Angels again.  I'd hate to have to paint something though..........

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of Ashley's after living in ATL and not hearing good things about it.

I will pay a little more if I have to as I'd rather get what I want now than just to get something to get it.

  • Sometimes Sam's has good furntire but it's hit or miss. We got a really great foyer cabinet there once after looking all over the place.

Yes, Gorees is definitely out in the middle of nowhere.

  • I understand about not wanting to refinish a piece.  I was in furniture refinishing hell this weekend.   Remeber that chest with no drawers I got last year off the side of the road?  It was so discusting.  I won't go into details because if I did you would never come over again.  But I am glad that is behind me!  I wanted to just toss it but E always makes fun of it calling it firewood or a POS so I had to prove him wrong!
