My 3's

AmberOH posted last week about her bad things coming in 4's, not 3's.

Well my 3's on our newer home just completed themselves this weekend.

1. Broken garbage disposal - took about 4 weeks to get replaced - $55 co-pay to home warranty folks, fixed a couple weeks ago

2. Broken dishwasher - wasn't being used during garbage disposal ordeal b/c of draining, so we haven't used it in about 2 months - $55 co-pay to home warranty folks (getting a new one from Sears in the next week or so)

and while FIL and step-MIL were in town this weekend....

3. Gross water backup into broken dishwasher.  We thought it could be (shudder) sewage because it had an awful smell, but DH and FIL investigated downstairs and the drain that was backing up only services the dishwasher and kitchen sink.  Leaked into basement, but again, thankfully only sink water. - $55 co-pay to home warranty folk, plumber coming tomorrow

We'll probably think very seriously about renewing that warranty next year!  We have a water heater and A/C both at the end of "normal lifespan".

Re: My 3's

  • By "newer home" I meant our house, not the condo (which completed its own set of 3's in September).  Our house is 106 yrs old.
  • Holy cow 106 years old?  Sorry everything happened, but at  least it was within warranty.  :-)
  • Yuck!!  Sorry it's been such a rough spell for you!

Before you renew based on water heater or A/C desires, double and triple check your warranty terms.  We found out the hard way ($55 copay for absolutely nothing) that our warranty only covers dealing with the water heater if it's visibly leaking water or discernibly leaking gas, and that the A/C is only covered under similar conditions.  Obviously your home warranty could be better than ours, but I'd hate to see you get hosed on something so big when it worked so well for the other stuff!
