Psychologist/Psychiatrist recommendation?
I need to see someone for my depression. I think I need medication of some sort, hence my trying to make an appt with my GP today who can't fit me in until January. So, I thought since I should probably talk to someone anyhow, maybe I could get a recommendation for someone who I can talk to, who can also prescribe some medication for me.
Would prefer North/Northeast again, but if someone has a glowing recommendation for someone in another part of town I would consider it. Now, that I've finally taken that important step of being willing to admit that I really need help, I want to find that help right now before I convince myself that I don't need it again.
I find the holidays especially depressing and would like to feel some improvement before then so that I don't ruin the holidays for everyone else in my family.
Thank you, girls.
Re: Psychologist/Psychiatrist recommendation?
Psychiatrists are generally really booked up and tend to see the more serious mental health issues. Psychologists can not prescribe meds. Antidepressants also can take 3-4 weeks to get in your system to be effective--so the sooner you get going-the better! Good luck and I think you will feel like a new woman on the meds! Take care.
I just started going to Dr. Audrey Todd. I will try to find her number, but she is located on high street in Clintonville. I went to see her today and she wants me to start taking Well Butrin. I really like her and I think if you told her your situation, she would work you in asap.
Medication although helpful in aiding the treatment process of depression does not solve the problem. The research supports that combination therapy is the best way to take mental health illnesses. I say this as someone that became personally exposed to this at a very young age and I spent many years traveling around to educate others on signs, symptoms and treatment options.
It really does concern me when docters (and I mean this in the nicest way I can) give out drugs like candy and do not back it up with talk therapy. I always explain it to people that the drugs will defog the mind to allow you to be receptive to discussions and solutions to your underlying issues. Without addresses those you will continue to be huanted by them.
Now please take these words with the warmest wishes that everything works out for you and that you are able to find a phycian and treatment that works for you.
Best of luck and you are in my prayers.
