I don't know how many of you knew this, but we just got back from Panama CIty Beach. My DH did Ironman Florida this past Saturday. It was such a cool experience watching him that I signed up for next year's race - 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run.
For those of you that have never been to Panama City Beach and are looking for a WONDERFUL beach vacation, I highly suggest going. We rented a very nice condo, right on the beach, the sand was like sugar and the water was as clear as what we found in Jamaica. I know that it's a popular spring break destination, but there was NOONE there this past week and we had sun and 80 degree temps.
Re: We're back
YAY!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Happy Training, girly! I can't believe you signed up for next year! That is so awesome! Is Tom doing it with you or is it his turn to be support? (I think you may have someone that wants to train with you guys)
Glad you guys got to enjoy yourselves in sunny Florida!
OMG, I can't believe you signed up!!!!! That is awesome! Wow, good luck!!
So, how did he do? It sounds like it was a great experience, so I can only assume that he did well.
I'd love to hear all about it!
PS, my family has been vacationing in Destin every year since I was 6 so I agree, it's beautiful down there! (Destin is just down the highway)
Megan, Tom finished in 12:26:22. His goal was 13:30:00 and he had a great day. The weather was truly perfect though and probably a once in a lifetime fluke! Usually it's really windy there and the day of, it was calm as could be. There wasn't a cloud in the sky and it was like 78 degrees. There were a lot of course records! I'm sure because I signed up for it next year, it'll be windy and rainy, just because that's my luck! I have a whole year to worry about it. So, yeah, I'm going to start training probably in February. That means though that I'll do a marathon this coming fall if you are interested, as well as a few half marathons. We'll definitely do the half in Columbus in April (we get free entry since we volunteered last year!) and then I think we'll end up doing the full at Dayton, only because of the timing. Tom wanted to get back to Chicago, but it's too close!
We've been to Panama City, and love that entire area (Destin, Seaside, etc)! Glad you enjoyed it!
Kudos to you for signing up for one! That's great!
12:26, wow, that is amazing! Please tell him congrats for me.
I'll most likely do the April half again too, so I'll probably see you there! I want to shave a few minutes off my time. And I'll probably do another marathon next year but I'm still very up in the air about which one. Some of the girls I trained with want to do the Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco, but the hills are scary!! We'll see.... I'd like to get a tri under my belt too. But definitely not an ironman!!
