As some of you know, I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2006 (a few months before my wedding). MS is a chronic, potentially disabling disease of the central nervous system. Its symptoms come and go without any pattern or warning and range from fatigue, difficulty walking and double vision to paralysis and blindness.
I have now had two 'attacks' since being diagnosed which included numbness of my entire left side of my body last year and then another this summer where I had severe tingling and stiffening in both of my legs that caused me to not be able to walk more than about 30 feet without having pain and having to sit and rest. I'm feeling much better now, but this year's symptoms have not gone away completely. However, I feel fortunate because it could be worse and I would need to use a cane or even a wheelchair, as is the case for some.
I wanted to get involved to help the cause in any way I could. Therefore, last spring I participated in their yearly Walk to benefit the National MS Society. My team, which consisted of me, my husband Brian and a few of our friends were able to raise a little over $1,000.
To get a head start on of raising even more for next year's Walk, I am participating in a fundraising activity with Malley's Chocolates of Cleveland, Ohio.
A website has been setup specifically for the fundraising campaign. All purchases made on that site will be credited towards my fundraising goal for the 2008 MS Walk and will directly benefit National MS Society/Ohio Buckeye Chapter. MS researchers have made extraordinary progress these last few years searching for a cure and your contribution will help support these vital efforts. Funds will also be used to support local programs for people with MS and their families.
To connect to the site, please visit http://tinyurl.com/2efhts. All purchases made on that site will be credited towards my fundraising amount. There are some great treats available that would be perfect for gifts and stocking stuffers, and even buckeyes to snack on during upcoming OSU football games.
Any help you can provide would be most appreciated. Thanks so much!
Sincerely,
Amanda
