Malware and the Nest

So I've noticed that twice now I've gone somewhere on the Columbus board and have been redirected to a site for downloading some anti-Malware software.  Has anyone else experienced this?

Re: Malware and the Nest

  • I just had a post blocked and my virus scanner thing popped up and said malware detected...weird!
  • This happened to me last week, on Thursday. It said something about my computer running slow and to download that software. Weird...
  • This was happening on another board I go to (a different site).  It is coming from an ad.  That board has awesome administrators, and they were able to figure it out and remove it in about a day.  Hopefully the Nest will figure it out also.
  • Some folks on Money Matters said it's been happening a lot (to me too) and recommended running a spyware program and delete your cookies.
  • Yes, it's happening on all the boards. There was a money matters post and 40 people replied they'd had problems. I've had it too....

    stupid nest!
  • Yes! It happened to me as soon as I tried to get on yesterday. It downloaded some stuff on our lap top. DH was able to get it off, thankfully. Be careful. Not long ago our lap top got hit with a really bad virus. DH is in IT and super "techy" and can normally combat viruses, but this one got the best of him. We ended up having to take our lap top in to the Lap Top Guy to have it completely wiped out. We had to reload all of our programs, lost all of our pictures, etc. :(
  • Yep, I got hit this morning.  The site it takes you to is actually horrid.  It tells you that you have issues you don't, installs a virus, and then removes part of what it installs.  Spyware search and destroy is a free program that I've had really good results with, and you can also google the stupid place link and get directions on how to remove whatever gets downloaded to your computer.

    Stupid stupid viruses.

  • I've experience that twice now - I just keep ignoring it.  I shut down the window the nest is in and re-start it.

  • That has happened to me twice last week, on a Macbook, shouldn't it not be suceptible to these viruses?
  • I&R--when it takes you to a website, the website doesn't install anything until you click on part of it.  The macbook shouldn't allow anything to download, but the computer can't prevent the website from being redirected if there's malicious code in the webpage you're visiting.
