E&D07

What's your primary instruemnt? I'm so curious b/c I saw your post in the poll below. I've always thought about mus. therapy after I retire from teaching...Where'd you go for your college again?

:)

Re: E&D07

  • That's a cool idea. I love MT because you can choose from such a wide variety of client populations. I was a percussionist in college, although I mostly play guitar now. I went to University of Dayton for my bachelor's and moved to Kansas City to do my Master's at U. Missouri-KC. There are other schools in the midwest w/grad programs, but I wanted to study with a specific prof, so I moved.

Since you already have degrees in music ed, you would probably just have to do a Master's/ equivalency in MT if you wanted to change careers at some point. You wouldn't have to retake all the core music classes you've already done for your music ed degrees. You'd just do your MT classes and fieldwork, psych, anatomy, etc. and then do an internship. I don't think UD offers an equivalency- it's usually offered at schools that also offer grad level work. OU and several colleges in Indiana and Michigan have programs, and there may still be a few programs in Cleveland at Baldwin-Wallace or one of the other schools.

Sorry for the novel! If you have any questions now or later, let me know!

  • Thanks so much for all the info! It's definitely something I've thought of as a second career somewhere down the road!
