Name Change - Quick Question
I am finally getting around to officially changing my name at the courthouse and i am doing the name change myself. I am in North Carolina and want to know what I should put as the reason for the name change. I was thinking about putting "unrecognized marriage" but thought it might get rejected. We got married in the UK last June and I have already offically changed my name in the UK and want to make my name change in the US now? What should I put as my name change reason so it doesnt get rejected?
Thanks,
Kathy
Re: Name Change - Quick Question
Well for mine I put "forming same-sex household with partner." Not exactly sexy but it was the truth. I think I could have put "getting married to same-sex partner." and it would have been fine.
In your situation you might want to mention the UK name change. State something about "changed name in UK, need to change name in US to keep all legal documents consistent."
HTHs!
