.:laagch:. and other ladies in east orlando

I'm so sorry to keep bugging you.  Finding a place to live from CA is driving me nuts!  I'm going to find an agent to help us find a rental.  We decided we do not want to live near the attractions, so we are narrowing down to eastern Orlando.  Can you tell me what cities, or neighborhoods of Orlando are clean, low crime, etc?

Thanks again!  I really appreciate your patience with me!!

Re: .:laagch:. and other ladies in east orlando

  • Oh, and we are thinking south to mid Orlando on the east side.  DH doesn't want to have to drive through Orlando when going south.
  • We live in east Orlando, Lake Nona to be specific. I love it here! Crime is virtually non existent. The area is still up and coming, and at least in our particular neighborhood, it's very family oriented. We're a short drive away for the airport, and about 20-30 minutes from other popular areas of Orlando. The only thing I don't like is that we have to take toll roads to get around, but when I compare it to the traffic I used to have to deal with on I-4, it's worth it. :)

I would exercise caution about renting a house though. Lawyers in Central Florida that specialize in real estate are warning people about renting houses right now due to the high rate of foreclosures. With two dogs and a toddler, I can't imagine having to move with only 30 days notice. But if it's just you and your husband, it may be less of a concern for you.

     Good luck!

This is one of my HUGE concerns.  I've heard you can check with the county to find out if a homeowner is in or near foreclosure, so I am going to look into that.  We have too much stuff and a larger dog, so an apt doesn't really work well for us.  So much stress!  lol.  I appreciate your advice!

I had no idea that you could check into the homeowner! If you find out any more info about that service, let me know. :)  We have two large dogs so finding a back up rental in 30 days would be a nightmare for us. lol

PS. we have great dog parks in Orlando! :)

I definitely will let you know.  I actually had a landlord there tell me about the county.  I'm not 100% sure if she was right or not.  I'll be looking into it this week.  So glad to hear about the dog parks!  Our dog loves to play and we hope to get her a nice big yard there too!  Land here in CA is hard to come by.

I feel your pain. Coming from Michigan, the one thing I don't like about Orlando is the lack of yard space. Either you have to buy an older home, or go outside of the city for a decent backyard! But winters are so much nicer down here :)

  • Hi there,

I live in Avalon Park in East Orlando and I really like it. Depending on which part of Avalon you're in, the homes can have decent size backyards to zero lot line backyards. A lof of the homes have rear-facing garages which only allows for a small backyard space... The area has a nice amount of parks and trails for running and there are a few dog parks as well. There's also an abundance of shops and restaurants close by.

It does have its drawbacks though... They built a lot of houses in the area so traffic during peak hours can be a nightmare. No area in Orlando is completely crime-free but the crime in Avalon doesn't seem to be a big problem (yet). There was a robbery/assault last month and that was the first one I had heard of.

I've heard good things about the Lake Nona area because of the fact that it isn't too populated yet. But Avalon was like that too at first...

    Good luck to you!

  • Hi, I rent in the Narcoossee/Moss Park area, and so far we have been lucky. I agree with smilejenn; crime is almost non-existent in this part of town. A quick hop onto the 417 and you will be at Disney within 20-25 minutes.

Yes, you can check with one of the county offices downtown to look into more information about the property you want to rent... I believe it might be the orange county property appraisers office... not sure though!

    good luck!

  • I own a home in Oviedo and have for 5+ years.  It's a really nice area to the northeast of Orlando and most homes have pretty good sized yards.  I have 2 big dogs so I know how important that is!!  You might want to check out the parts of Oviedo that are close to 417 -- that would save a lot of time in traffic.  Good luck!
  • I also live in the Lake Nona area and I really like it. We have lived here for 3 years and haven't had any problems with crime. We go to the YMCA and the park around the area all the time, it is a nice place for families. We also like the short drive to almost anywhere in Central Florida. I agree with PP that it is an up-and-coming area and the developer is very reputable.

We lived in a really nice rented townhome at Northlake Park Apartments for a year before we bought a house nearby and we loved living there. They can probably get you in fast if you can't find a home to rent.

    Good Luck!

  • I don't remember where you or your husband were going to be working but I live in Lake Mary which I love in fact we just bought a house there but I will say that my commute to Downtown Orlando stinks big time. Pretty much any commute on I-4 will be horrible, I live 15 miles from Orlando but it can take me anywhere from 45-60 min-on a good day! If there is an accident forget it! I moved here from CA too so feel free to pm me or send me and email if you want to chat or have questions, lindsay.austin at gmail.com
  • I liven in St. Cloud - south of the Lake Nona area. We have little crime and pretty decent schools. Our house isn't very old and we have about half an acre.

Lake Nona is nice. We have friends that live there.

  • We are in Avalon Park/ Waterford Lakes area... we really like it! :) I like that we can easily access 408 and 50 without having to deal with a ton of traffic. :) It's perfect for us since I work on the Coast and DH works out by Disney area. : )
  • Is the Waterford lakes area a good area?  Near all of the shopping out there.  We looked at a house there after DH decided Avalon and Lake Nona are too far out.

    TIA!!
