PCP/TTC/ATP Wednesday

It's Wednesday, and you know what that means!! So, what's up? Any news/updates to share?

QOTD (I'm fresh out of ideas, so feel free to answer your own QOTD if this doesn't apply to you): Are you planning to/did you share the names you picked out prior to the arrival of your child? Was the name-selecting process a joint one, or did one person or the other pick the name(s)?

Re: PCP/TTC/ATP Wednesday

  • great minds think alike...and at the same time...I am good with us using your post.....

we have been sharing names we like with people that know we have plans to TTC....names have been joint decisions which is why we have not exactly settled on a boy name yet.

  • we are nervously awaiting our first u/s next wednesday. i think we'll both feel a bit more relaxed once we see that. she's started having some symptoms, which we see as a good thing (in part because they're a sign that something really is happening). some nausea, and some other things that i'm sure she wouldn't want me to mention so i won't.

we've discussed some of our name ideas with a few close friends and family members, but not many. we love one boy name that was the name of c's second-cousin who was killed in a train/car collision a few years ago so we're very, very hesitant to use it. we're honestly not sure if his parents (c's cousin and her husband) would be ok with it, which is our biggest concern. i think they'll either be really upset by it or really happy and see it as honoring him--which is in a way what we would be doing. we're pretty close to them, but we're very hesitant to bring it up and won't unless we find out that it is a boy and start having to seriously consider it. we really don't want to upset them, though, so we may very well just go with something else. our favorite girl name is really popular right now, but i think we've decided that we just don't care because we like it. it's definitely been a joint discussion.

  • No real news from us, other than my employment will enable us to get back to our TTC saving - thank goodness!  We also have talked a lot about our baby plans over the past couple of months, and have started thinking about home birth and some more alternative resources available to us in our area.

QOTD: We don't share our "picks" with people now, and we plan to wait as long as we can to share with people - at least most people - when the time comes.  We just have seen so many people say inappropriate things to parents-to-be about name choices that we are a little hesitant to share!  Plus there's that irrational fear that someone will "steal" our names - haha!! Anyone else have that fear???

We have talked about baby names a lot, and already have a boy name picked out (subject to change, of course, but we have stuck with it for a long time now!), and have a girl name that we feel good about.  We are very democratic about names - we both have to love it Smile

  • news for me is that I told the kids yesterday.  I wanted to do something fun so I made a riddle that they could solve using the periodic table and chemical symbols for elements.  For example they would find the element with an atomic mass of 72.64 (germanium/ge).  The symbols spelled out the answer Genier has baby in her beli!  I had to be creative as I couldn't spell many things and had to do belly phonetically.  It was fun and the kids are excited.  Yes I am a geek and yes it took me a little while to figure it out.  The kids all want me to name the baby after them!

As for names we are pretty open to telling people.  My theory is that if they don't like it I don't care.  We actually came up independently.  As a teacher many a name has been ruined by a naughty kid.  Since I have taught for 12 years that is many names off the table.  I have always liked Ella (and it is S's grandma's name).  We both love Jack (and I have a Jack this year and he is a super kid, I am so glad he did not ruin that one as we don't really love any other boys names).  I told my mom and she is not all that excited but she wanted me to name the baby (if a boy) after my Dad.  His name is Robert and I am just not that big a fan of the name. Sorry dad.

  • I am hoping everyone in our house is going to be getting better soon.  The two monkeys have been sick with the flu - but seem to be fever free today, just whiny with runny noses.

We told everyone but my work about names (they were already so critical of everything (from my weekly diet coke, to the extra piece of cake at a party. I didn't want to hear about our choice of names.) But with everyone else, we told them the names before they were born.

It was definintely deomocratic. We actually picked Grayson way before TTC (L had always wanted Garrytt to honor her dad, Gary) but I wasn't a fan of the spelling. We both really liked Grayson and liked that it is an anagram of Gary. Carter we found in a book, liked how it fit with Grayson (I think with twins you have to find names that are complementary and of similar genres), and L liked the connection to Jimmy Carter. Carter's middle name is Julian after my dad. We debated for a LONG time on Grayson's middle name. L wanted it to have some historical significance since they were both going to be named after our dads and then someone historically significant. She lobbied for Mandela for a few weeks. Yea, no. Great man, doesn't fit for our kid. I got her to think about James - more because I liked the flow - and then she decided she liked how it sounded and it kinda completed the Jimmy Carter thing. :P So they were named. If we'd of had a girl, she'd have been Emerson Grace.

How's that for a long answer?

  • No updates. But someone needs to promise to kick my butt in gear if I don't order donor pictures soon.

QOTD: I think everyone knows my answer by now (b/c I feel like I've typed it out a zillion times on this board). Boys - K really wants to use the name Tim after her best friend who died.  I hate the name  I like Jackson. (Jack aka JAK or our monogram)  It's not necessarily up for discussion though.  We may go the route that if it's a boy she will name, and if it's a girl I'll name.  But idk...that's so far away.  As for a girl I like Paige.  Always have.

  • No new news for us, just waiting to test. We decided we would test on Sunday and I'm so ready.

As for names, we have a few the we like but nothing set. I really like the idea of using both grandmothers name and that would make the name Jovelyn but wife dosen't like.

  • I had my follow up with the doc this morning and thankfully all is well. My ute is back to normal sized, and everything appears in order. I'm off pelvic rest and we have the all clear to start trying as soon as we are ready after my first period. Now if I could just stop bleeding, it would be nice.

We have talked about names a bunch and come up with ones that we both like. They are pretty much set already (Jack William for a boy, Gwenivere Mae for a girl)... and our best friends already know them. Chances are, once we get pregnant again and find out the sex, we will start using the name... so people will know.

Meegs glad you are feeling better.  I hope the bleeding stops soon.  I really like Jack William but there is a local news guy here who is Jack Williams so I can only think of him when I hear it.  I also like your girls name will you call her gwen?

  • Thanks.

Yup, we'd call her Gwen. I've always loved that name.

  • I'm on hold w/ our social worker - appropriate time to answer, no?

    Foster:

home inspection is tomorrow. i'm mildly freaking out, but it has provided great momentum to finish a ton of little projects around the house.  last night i was up until midnight working on the "nursery"...it was tough because i wanted it to look cute and nice but at the same time, i didnt want to dump much money into it considering we will need to turn it into a real nursery in a few weeks. but, i think i achived my goal by hanging curtains with cute tie backs and bringing in decor from forgotten about closets and storage. i'll be honest...when i finished i shed a couple tears thinking about the lives and changes that room will witness over the years. Foster training class starts on saturday and i could not be any more thrilled - or ready.

    TTC:

2 weeks until our first appointment with the midwives! Andrea almost had her first ttc-related breakdown last week when her opks kept coming up negative (last month we got nothing but negative as well) - fortunately thursday morning brought a smiley face and she so sweetly woke me up and climbed into bed to tell me the news. i was surprised by how happy and relieved that + made her - it was a nice preview to what our (hopeful) BFP will feel like. We charted out her cycles to get an idea for when we may be inseminating the first few months, and our predicted first insem is my brother's bday and the day we got the keys to our house last year, which just felt like a very hopeful omen.  Oh, yeah, and its about a week after we finish foster training - yes, we are crazy.  i tell myself daily that i should start a blog to keep track of this crazy time!

QOTD: we've had our names picked out forever and ever (seriously, at least 8 years) and they are simply names we both like. Our first born son will be Jacob and if we have a daughter, she'll be Brook(e) - although thats semi up for debate b/c my cousin (who we havent seen in years) just had a daughter and named her Brooklyn....A says it doesnt matter, i'm trying to decide if i care.  We never considered not sharing, so at this point i'm pretty sure everyone knows our chosen baby names.  And to Brit's point, i kinda feel like if i tell people, i'm laying claim ;)

  • Update: A couple of good developments this week...
    1) I got a positive opk!! My afternoon stick yesterday was sorta-positive, so when I got home I tested again with a digital and got that little smiley face! Now, granted, I am on CD45, but we are thrilled! Assuming I do actually ovulate, it will be my fifth ovulation since this time last year. Yay!

We actually had a minute's conversation about whether or not we'd try to take advantage of this one (given that they are few and far between), but decided we'd follow the plan and just do testing this cycle. It pains me to lose this opportunity, but that's how the dice fell. *sigh*

    2) We picked a donor! Yes, we had already picked a donor, but Sylvia wanted to go back through everything again and "really pick" now that we are at the sperm-ordering stage. It was very cute. She did jokingly try to "rock-paper-scissors" me to pick the donor (choosing between our top 2)-- we got a good laugh out of that. We ended up with our original choice, even though we don't feel he's been entirely honest on his medical paperwork regarding his family history (it's just "too clean", if you know what I mean).

QOTD: Names will be kept a secret. From everyone. S is trying to convince me to let her name the kid if it's a girl (we already have a boy name in mind, which is one I came up with but S likes), but I am insisting that we have to agree on it. If I didn't insist, we would end up with a girl named after me (she really really wants to name a kid after me for some reason; it seems odd and almost narcissistic to me-- just not my cup of tea).

  • No News Here! Our TTC is far away as you all know, and were okay with that more okay with it then we have been in a long time. Anyways, on the name front.

Julie and I LOVED the name Lilly. Well, Julie's cousin who she is close with  just had a baby and named her Lillian. So no Lilly for us. We  love the names Willow Mae, and Julian Scott.

  • My update is that our baby is here! I don't think I've posted this here yet, but I could be wrong. It's been a long, sleep-deprived couple of weeks. :-)

As some of you read in my blog (thanks for your sweet comments!!), we welcomed a beautiful baby BOY - Elliot Arthur - into our family on March 14th. He was 8 lbs, 4 oz. and 20.5 inches long. I ended up having an unplanned c-section after 52 difficult hours of labor (quite the departure from the natural childbirth we were hoping for) and Elliot suffered some complications along the way that caused him to spend the first week of his life in the special care nursery. It was terrible having to visit him there, all covered with tubes and getting stuck with needles right and left. He's been home for a few days now and they've been some of the most challenging and wonderful days of my life. It's so amazing to me that he is here! My own recovery feels slow, but I'm trying to remember that I had major surgery less than two weeks ago and I need to be patient with myself.

QOTD: We shared our "short lists" for boys and girls with whoever asked.?We didn't actually pick a name until we got to see Elliot late in the afternoon of the 14th. We went in with three boy names and two girl names and figured we'd wait to meet the kiddo before committing to one. Middle names, on the other hand, we shared with no one. We picked one for a boy and one for a girl early on - both honoring family members - and we wanted to wait to reveal them (well, one of them) after the baby was officially named.?

  • A bit late due to trying to catch-up after being on vacation.

This month I've increased my thyroid level (I have hypothyroidism and want to make sure my level is optimum for TTC). Cycle day 1 is in the next few days and I've decided to activate VIP feritlity friend and start temping. We'll also be going to the gym (and walking outside once it gets a bit nicer) and eating better now that we're home.

On our last huge PCP item front, we're getting a storage unit and beginning to pack our stuff to get ready to put our condo on the market.

AOTD: We are not planning to share the names prior to our babies' arrivals. We have one top pick boy's name picked out and a few girls name we like (but most likely won't end up using because they're too popular) and one gender neutral name. Our goal is to have at least 2 of each (boy, girl, gender neutral) before the birth and then decide based on the baby we get. We too are democratic and need to both really love the name before it will make the short list. For a boy we're trying to follow C's family tradition of initials (therefore boys names need to start with C) and for a girl we're trying to follow my family's tradition of the middle name (therefore girl first names need to sound good with it).
