Moving to St. Louis- Lafayette Square
Hi all I'm new to this board as I am getting ready to be moving to the Lafayette Square area next month. I've never been to St Louis before (moving from Florida) and any tips or advice about things that I should make time to see or try would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Re: Moving to St. Louis- Lafayette Square
You'll be near some really great, non-chain restaurants. Definitely check them out.
1111 Mississippi and Sqwires are right there, as well as the Chocolate Bar and many others. So many great places to try, don't feel the need to eat at a chain.
Definitely get to Forest Park - tons to do there...lots of biking/running/walking trails, the Science Center, History Museum, Art Museum, Muny (concerts, musicals, etc)...
Check out the Botanical Gardens - they have a jazz concert series in the summers for free
What types of things do you like to do? There's lots of suggestions...
Welcome!
Lafayette Square is absolutely my favorite St. Louis neighborhood. Great restaurants, awesome houses, wonderful community. In addition to those listed above, check out 33 Wine Bar (it's next door to the Chocolate Bar). They have an amazing wine list and an amazing beer list (no domestics, though).
I agree with PP about Forest Park and the Botanical Gardens. It's also fun to just walk around some of the St. Louis neighborhoods and check out the shops/restaurants/etc. Try walking around the Central West End (on the eastern side of Forest Park), the Washington Ave. loft district (downtown), Soulard (just north and east of Lafayette Square), and the Hill (an Italian neighborhood in the southwest part of the city) for starters!
I appreciate the advice and I'm excited to put them to use!
