Today's Question: 3/26

What is the coolest thing you've ever purchased second-hand?

I guess if you've never purchased something second-hand you can tell us about something that was really on sale :)

Re: Today's Question: 3/26

  • Our living room coffee table. Looking at it, it seems "typical" but the top lifts up and back so you can actually sit at it and have a meal and/or store stuff in the left and right side boxes.
  • I just bought an antique desk that I'm super excited about.  I think that you could call that second hand :)   I also have a couch that I bought in college that I've now recovered three times.  I love it.

I go through local thrift stores all the time looking for furniture that I can update.   The desk that I just bought it probably the first "nice" antique that I've ever purchased.

  • As Lauren already knows from MM, I bought a daybed on Craigslist yesterday.  It was a GREAT deal and it included the mattress.  I was super excited about it, but today I'm feeling a little guilty cause someone asked for it before me, but I offered $20 more and said I could pick it up last night... So I basically am a craigslist sniper now :-/

But at least Z's grandma will have a bed when she comes to visit in April :)

We have one of those. It's awesome!!!!

I can't think of anything that we have bought used but the most recent thing I got an awesome deal on was china. We registered for it for our wedding and got 2 place settings. We wanted at least 6 settings so when we host dinners we can use it. I got it on sale from regular price $176 for $45. It was already reduced in price. Plus I had a discount from having our registry with them, free shipping, and a rebate for $25 if I spent so much. So I ended up buying 4 place settings for $45!!!! I should have bought more, but I didn't want to spend more at that time.

  • I guess this almost counts as second hand...but not really.

Both of my husbands parents and all of his grandparents are deceased.  We have boxes upon boxes of stuff stored at our apartment and office.

I have this thing for unusual vintage jewelery.  I love big beaded necklaces and earrings.  I have a lot that has been handed down to me from my grandmother.  For my birthday two years ago, my husband handed me large box.  It was ALL of his mom and grandma's jewelery.

I "found" a diamond ring in the box.  My birthday was on December 21st.  On January 1st, he proposed to me with the ring.  So the best 2nd hand find was my engagement ring...that we got for free.  That was laying on the bottom of a box for over 10 years.

  • Well I am drawing a blank on an item I purchased that was really cool or I was excited about that was second handed. We have a lot of hand me down furniture from our parents. I love that I have my great grandmother's dining room set.
