Hello everyone!

Hi! I'm new to this board! I live in Peoria, IL and have been married since October 6th, 2007. Nice to meet everyone! :)

Re: Hello everyone!

  • Yeah another Peoria girly!! Welcome! I am also in the Peoria area, since 2006. (WOW- coming on 3 years out here!!!) We really should rename this board the QC/Central Illinois board or something to reflect our wide territory. How do you like Peoria?
  • Hey! I have also been here for about 3 and a half years-since summer 2005. I am originally from Springfield. Where are you originally from?

I do like Peoria for the most part. I don't plan on living here much longer (maybe 2 years more at the most). I am getting my master's degree and then DH and I are looking to move out of state-somewhere warmer! :) In the meantime, we find fun things to do here in Peoria!!! What about you?

  • Are you working on your master's at Bradley? (Or commuting to ISU?).

I am originally from Maryland, but did a few years time in Iowa before Peoria. I miss Iowa Embarrassed Maybe someday DH and I will move to the Quad Cities to be closer to family (eg, when the economy improves, we can get jobs up there, and we don't lose anything when we sell our house!). I don't see us doing the move way far away at this point in our lives. (The older we get, the more we want to be close to family... that wasn't the case 8 or 10 years ago!)

I've found a few outlets for socialization, trying to make the best of it, as it is "home" now. Peoria is like many other mid-sized metro areas of the midwest, from my knowledge/experience. I love to go casual bike riding when the weather is nice (thinking about going tonight).

  • ...if I say anything mean about P-town, I have to live with that consequence. (Eg, I'm not moving for a long time, so I'll be stuck!)
  • Sorry for my late reply! I am actually getting my Masters in Public Health through Des Moines University-the medical school (they have online classes and weekend classes).

I did go to ISU for undergrad though! :) Where did u go to school? I love to bike ride or walk too and do that almost every night during the week. Peoria is nice for now-not sure where we will end up in the future!!

  • Welcome! I live down in Decatur. I haven't checked in for a while. Hopefully things pick up soon!

  • Long story short, not an alumnus of ISU, but my last year of undergrad was at ISU, so I kinda feel it is an adopted alma mater. (Was participating in a study abroad type exchange program (but exchange was with other US intituations.) I met a guy while I was on the exchange, and now he is my husband! DH is a true Iowa State alumnus... although I am more of a Cyclone fanatic than him. He could care less about ISU. (Although the boy wears a ton of ISU t-shirts that have collected over the years... mixed message on his part. At least we have no Hawkeye gear!!! Although DH's 1st birthday picture he is wearing Hawkeye gear! The shame!!!!)

So yeah, Peoria is okay for now. I've been trying to get involved with some actitivies since it may be awhile before we leave (if ever). Someday maybe move back to the Quad Cities (I've never lived there, but he grew up there... we do miss the small family things and it would be nice to have "grandma" a few miles away once we have kids.)

Spent 45 minutes in line at Emo's on Saturday. Not worth it. I was disappointed. (And this gives me an idea for a new topic!)

    Boy did I ramble.

  • I'm back. Any plans for your MPH? What is your undergrad in?
