We are expecting twins late this August, and I'm trying to get a head start on researching child care options as it could have an impact on whether or not I go back to work.
What do you for childcare? ?If you don't mind, would you provide an estimate of how much you pay? ?How did you go about choosing option? ?Is there any place you *wouldn't* recommend?
Really I'm just happy for any input other SA ladies can provide! ?We live near the 281&1604 area so anyone who knows anything about this area PLEASE help us!!
?
Thank you so much!?
Re: need child care help...
Congrats! ?You may want to repost on the local baby board (click on badge in my siggy)
We had Sarah at Luv-n-care on Huebner/Lockhill Selma and really liked it (Miss Rosario is GREAT), but a spot opened up at our first choice (Concordia - wait list was 5 months for us). ?Luv-n-care was $182/wk, Concordia is $193/wk.
We also looked at Rainbow Station but there was also a waiting list and it was out of the way for me. ?I forgot the exact price, but it was over $200/wk
Unless you know someone, all the home care places seemed to be REALLY expensive in this area.?
DD is at the Goddard School near Hardy Oak and Stone Oak Pkwy, and we love it there. They went ahead and put her in the 12-18 month room, and we pay $975/month. I can't believe the activities they do with them - every day they do a craft, practice self help skills, practice signing, do yoga - it's so cute. I can't remember what it is for the infant room - maybe $1050?
Before that, she was at the Children's Center of Stone Oak, off Stone Oak Pkwy between 1604 and Sonterra. She was really happy there, but Goddard is closer to our house and we thought Goddard's curriculum was better as she gets older. It was $205/wk for the infant room.
As far as how to choose, just start setting up some visits with places in the area. I would start now since a lot of them have significant waiting lists. I felt like I had a good feel for each place pretty quickly - some I walked in and immediately thought "No way." Another good resource is the state licensing website - you can search by area and it lists any inspection infractions. You might look at this before visiting any places, and you can always ask them questions if there were any situations on the inspection report that you want to know more about.
Good luck!

Thanks everyone! ?So far, it looks like the moms will be doing it - at least until after my first summer (so until the next school year when they'd be 1 already). ?We have a few logistical items to work out but I hope it works in our favor - otherwise it seems ?my entire paycheck would be going to pay someone else to watch my babies. ?That definitely won't sit well with me!

Hi! Oddly enough I haven't been on this site in probably a year, and just popped on because I wanted to see if anyone was posting about childcare on the local boards. I am a mother of an almost 2 year old boy and am interested in taking care of a few kids at home next school year. From your last reply you're not needing care next year, but I thought I'd reply anyway because before my son was born I worked in a daycare for 7 years and have some insight into daycares in your area if you're at all interested. It's probably useless info anyway, because as you said it would take practically your whole paycheck. You would be better off putting them in a home daycare (if you could find one you trust), as far as cost goes. If I can find any little ones to care for I'd be charging $125/week or $200 week for 2 siblings. I haven't got a clue where else to look, but have been cautiously surfing craigslist (more out of curiousity than anything else) and that seems to be a reasonable number. I think you could definitely find someone to do it for that amount. And with a year to find someone, you've got plenty of time to find the right person.
I'd love to share info with you on local daycares, but since I still have friends there I'd rather keep it to email, not a post on a community board, so if you're interested just email me ar Rika112080 at yahoo dot com.
Good luck!
