TTC question on a Monday

I know it's not Wednesday and....we don't know who else to ask.  The nurse at our doctor's office won't let us get past her without a positive test...so...anyone who has been pregnant:  Did you have spotting/lighter period/implantation bleeding and were still pregnant?  This is the second time my partner was late (and really the second time ever she has been late) and it coincided with the only times we have inseminated....and now we are trying to get a good idea if she is spotting or if she actually started her period (but it has been so weird that it does not seem like a real period).  Any thoughts on early pregnancy spotting/implantation spotting and how long after insemination it could occur?  I  and we really appreciate any help.  We tested twice last week but now are afraid to test again....

Re: TTC question on a Monday

  • I didn't have any implantation bleeding so I can't say from personal experience but I know people that have had it.  Implantation happens 8-10 days after ovulation.  So I would expect the spotting to occur in the same time period.  Where are you in your cycle.   Just a note that on our first iui I was three days late.  The midwife told us that it is very common to throw off your cycle when ttc so it may be just that.  Hope this helps

  • No, I didn't have any implantation bleeding. But I have known people who have. How many DPO are you?

  • Let's see...OPK poz on March 15, insem 15th and 16th of March....spotting started March 27...so that would be 11 or 12 days post insemination. I can't give a definite ovulation date....but spotting started 11-12 after insemination. Does that make sense?
  • no, my wife didn't have any. i do know that my mom had spotting all through her first trimester with me, though, and it is pretty common. isn't your partner pretty much exactly at the end of the tww? if so you probably were testing a bit early last week and it's very possible nothing would have shown up. you might test one more time today, then let it go for a day or two and see if she starts for sure.
  • PP's gave great answers - just wanted to say don't ever hesitate to post TTC any day!  We just do the round-up to make sure we all get to touch base once a week - it's definitely not the only time for TTC talk Smile

And for what it's worth, I second blue - sounds like you're testing a little early, and plenty of people spot during 1st trimester, so it seems too early to know for sure what's happening.

  • Thanks for all the insight.  yes, I guess she would be at the end of TWW, except that she has 25 day cycles and got the OPK+ on day 16 of the cycle....meaning she has a short second half of her cycle.  Does TWW (meaning literally 14 days) apply if for example you normally ovulate on day 16 or 17 of a 25 day cycle?

And, to vent a bit, it DOES NOT help when  a nurse says, well, if you get your period tomorrow, then you will have your answer!  really?  Really is that how it works?  It's like they think we don't know anything about how bodies work and that perhaps, even though we told them we are a SS couple doing AI at home, we might not think this is a very big deal.  ARGGGG! end vent....

  • the 2ww doesn't literally have to be 14 days. It is just the time between insemination and when you will either get a positive pregnancy test of about the time when the average woman gets her period.  It is based an a standard 28 day cycle with ovulation occurring around day 16 or so. You can test 12/13 DPO with good accuracy.

  • Thanks 2 brides...that is kind of what we thought  - that we have more of a NDW  - nine day wait :) - but wanted to be sure.
  • You might want to talk with your doctor about that. That is kind of a short luteal phase (time from ovulation to your next period.)

  •  S did have implantation bleeding one cycle (ended in a c/p) as did a close friend of ours. Spotting/bleeding is pretty common in the first tri. 2brides is right, ask about your rather short LP, progesterone supps during the TWW may make a huge difference. Good luck!
  • W had spotting on a few occasions during the first month after conception of M.  It was really stressful but did not indicate any problem.
  • I know im late.... but... on both of my previous pregnancies I had implantation bleeding. But they were messed up....the hcg levels were really low and the babies were very sick :( I dont think that the bleeding was a sign of that just saying my 2 pregnancies weren't typical healthy full term pregnancies. So my advice is probably null and void.

Anyway I am wishing you lots and lots of baby dust. I will tell E to pray for you both as well! :)
