Catalina Island

As we are creeping extemely close to DH and I's one year anniversay, it went so fast, we have decided to go to Catalina Island. We plan on giong from the 24-26.

Does anyone have any recommendations for hotels or websites? We are in the beginning stages of planning and would love any insite. DH has never been and when I went we stayed in a remote area of the island with the locals as part of a high school trip, best experience ever, but whole different story.

Re: Catalina Island

  • WeeMo just went over president's day weekend. ?check out her blog - they stayed at a great-looking hotel and she provides an awesome recap of what they did.

  • Thanks, I wish I can blog like you ladies.
  • We've stayed at the Snug Harbor Inn and the Del Mar Inn (owned by the same company).  Nice ammenities...wine and cheese at night and nice rooms but the rooms are small.

If you can afford it, stay at the Inn on Mt. Ada.  It's fabulous...but pricey.

And if you enjoy hiking, take the shuttle to Two Harbors and hike back to the airport.  It's beautiful!

Must be, they are booked for all room the weekend we want!

The problem we are having now is that every place is only a 2 night stay and we are looking for just one night! Arriving on Saturday and then leaving on Sunday.

  • If you aren't tied to Catalina, and if you enjoy wine, consider the South Coast Winery.  It's fun for a night getaway.  It's in Temecula, they have a spa and a nice restaurant, and TravelZoo often has "special deals" for SCWinery.

  • Thanks, we are looking for a beach getaway. We might look at going up the coast.
  • I may be too late in this response but my fiancee and I took a Catalina day trip last summer and were thinking about going back for our birthdays on the same dates as you (the 24-26). Unfortunately, most hotels are 2 nights on weekends, but we did find one that didn't mention a 2 night minimum on their website, and it's probably the cheapest hotel on the island at 55-$100/night. Check out www.hermosahotel.com if you're interested. There's also great reviews on all the hotels at tripadvisor.com. But honestly, I don't know if I could go for more than a day again. The island is so small, there's really only one tiny little touristy town, one beach bar area.... and that's it. We were more than ready to get on that boat at 8pm after spending the day there. Good luck and have fun whatever you choose... we're still on the hunt for a good, cheap-ish trip for that weekend too! :)
