Argh family

We love living out here, but the thing that stinks is we always have to take off a minimum of 3 days for any family thing. We've had a funeral this year, we'll have 2 weddings this summer, and then we're trying to decide what to do for Thanksgiving/New Year's. Then my darling husband sends me ridiculous fares for Paris between Christmas and New Year's and I'm like, "Oh yeah, maybe at one point we can have a vacation for OURSELVES! Not family related!"

Blah. Need to be independently wealthy POST HASTE.

I use to have that problem until I told my family that traveling for thanksgiving wasnt worth it and once I met my husband we agreed that we would alternate Christmases so both families got a chance to spend time with us. Last year my family flew out to CA for Christmas and this year it will be our turn. Definitely recommend trying something like this bc traveling during holidays always blows (esp to colder climates) and it will definitely save your sanity.

This is what we do as well, but for Thanksgiving too.

it's much easier to have two people travel to see 10 people than vice versa.

plus, I would rather scratch my nipple with a spork than spend consecutive days with my MIL.

It is more of a budget thing this year than anything. H is launching his business in July, so depending on how well it does by the end of the year we may go somewhere.

We'll both see our families at the wedding, and guaranteed my parents are coming out in September. My mother pulled a true Catholic guilt trip on me, though, saying my grandparents are old and ill and I should try to see them this year (they won't be at the weddings). I told her money doesn't grow on trees, but I am feeling sort of bad.
