Re: PCP/TTC/ATP Wednesday
we have our u/s this afternoon, and i haven't been able to think about ANYTHING ELSE! gah! i'm so nervous and excited. i keep trying to work but then my mind will just be off and running again. i don't know what to do with myself!
eta: i just saw my horoscope for today, lol...
You're going through some pretty crazy emotions right now, but it should all end up being pretty great in the long run. Just let them have their way with your heart for the time being!
i hope that's a good sign!
No news here really. I think I am finally done bleeding/spotting now, 21 days post D&E. ::Knock on wood!:: I also had some CM & ov pains last night, so I might be ovulating. Maybe. Hopefully that means I'll be getting my period in ~2 weeks. Then we can finally be done with this loss cycle and start trying again.
Good luck Blue! I'm sure everything will be perfect.
Maybe I don't have a heightened sense of smell, but I've never smelled any vagina on my pants. -- TSD
Bloggity Blog - You know you want to...
We're just moving right along with preparations...midwife appointment is on monday and second foster training class is saturday. we'll be looking to schedule our home study soon so we really need to get going with collecting all the baby items. Speaking of which, did you guys see the recent rec that kids be rear-facing in thier car seats until 24 months? So, my latest hunt is for a good convertible seat that will rear-face up to 35lbs. or 40...if that even exists. Suggestions?
And we have two decisions we're really mulling over this week:
1) who our foster emergency contacts will be - this is someone who will be fingerprinted, background checked, and certified by the state to stay in our home and care for our foster child in the event of an emergency. thats a big thing to ask of someone and they request that we provide 3 names...
2) We have a good amount of frequent flier miles from when we went to Australia. These will expire in Nov if not used. We kicked around the idea of going to chicago for a long weekend in early september to see the red sox play the white sox. But we have two potential conflicts. One is a foster child and the other is our TTC plans/A's potential pregnancy (someone told her yesterday that its not safe to fly during the first tri so now she's paranoid). It would kill me to let two free flights go to waste (and you guys know how i love to travel! i really wanna see chicago). WWYD?

what? ok, i just did a quick search and it seems fine. they say it's not the flying that's an issue so much, it's that it can make symptoms like morning sickness worse. so it might not be much fun, but it's safe.
I'd say go to Chicago! I looked up some info for you, and everyone says it's perfectly safe to fly, it's just the flyer, may not be feeling to well. (morning sickness, and the like), but otherwise it's fine! Chicago is amazing. I love that city. Only thing, it will be probably be chilly in November. When you go, make sure you go to the Museum of Modern Art, and Navy Peir. :-D
No updates here.

madison - Sorry to hear your news. Am I remembering correctly that this was your 2nd try? If so, I think it's a good idea to try in April even though you won't see ob until may - Good luck with everything!
blue - Good luck today!
meegs - Glad to hear you are almost in your new cycle. It must feel good to start moving forward.
Elise - 24 months?? How are kids going fit? When I was nannying, the 9 month old already had his legs crushed against the seat rear-facing - granted, he was big for his age, but I can't imagine how he'd fit back there until age 2! I did not hear about that - very interesting! Still, I think you'll be able to find one with the higher weight limit, because many carseats can be used from the time the baby is out of the infant seat, but still rear facing, up through the time they are toddlers, front facing - so the seats should have the higher weight limit, it's just that you'd use them rear facing for longer, if that came out making any sense at all.

Re: convertible seats- I'd go for the Britax Marathon. That is what we have - and while they are pricey, they are awesome seats. So easy to install, very comfortable for the kids, and you can rear face till 35lbs. I will tell you that one of my kids didn't hit 35lbs till 2.5y and I am not sure Grayson is 35lbs yet (they'll be three in 6 weeks.) They are front facing till 65lbs so you will get a LOT of use out of them. I wouldn't get a seat that only goes to 40 or 45lbs front facing since you'll end up having to get another seat. We have 2 Cosco Scenras, which are great for travel - but not good long term. Carter will hit the 40lb mark soon and then we have to go get another seat for him - and he isn't ready for a booster yet (he still needs the harness.)
We rear faced till 16m. At that point they wanted to look out the window and HATED being in their car seats. Once we turned them around, we were all 1000x happier. And I figured that we had very safe seats that were properly installed - it was okay. But I do have friends that went till 2y (although not many.)
I have no idea about travel. We have a ton of miles - but we are saving them to go to Europe - so I haven't investigated the rules of cancelling/last minute reservations. Either way - good luck!
Nothing new here with the kids. They are still sick (going on 2 weeks.) Grayson napped from 11:30-3:30 yesterday and woke up and declared he "felt better." Okay!
We leave on Friday to go to the ILs - the boys are so excited to ride on the plane (this is their 10th trip!) - I am not so excited about my ILs non-child proof house!
Agreed. I've never heard that. I think you should book the trip and then if it turns out you have a foster child and can't go, you can deal with it then - you're not paying for it, and you'll kick yourself if you miss the chance!

Great point - i'm going to bring this up to A tonight.
As for the flying during the first tri thing - i'm definitely with you guys and think its perfectly safe...i actually did the research months ago before i suggested the trip to A - but she's in the "strongly paranoid" camp so convincing her of this will be a feat. And I could only imagine the fall out if (heaven forbid!) anythign did happen....
But, we might not even be pg in Sept and it wont cost us anything, so we should book and make the decision closer to the date! Why didnt i think of that?? good thing i have this board to supplement for the other half of my brain

Blue - How exciting! Can't wait to hear how it goes!
Meegs - Glad to hear how you are doing. I know it must be hard to look ahead and you are doing an amazing job!
Mrs F - Yes, it's our second try. We are trying to balance wanting to see if maybe we can lengthen the LP and track another month and keep an eye on costs with wanting to try again....hmmmm
Well, I'm not pregnant got my cycle today.
No significant news here. Got my last set of required blood draws done yesterday, so now I am just waiting for the results (I am feeling so impatient! I should have a cycle starting in a few days and I don't want to miss trying this month).
On Friday we have our appt with the social worker that our RE requires people to see before starting cycles with donor sperm. From the preparatory materials she sent us through the mail, I anticipate it will mostly be about how to handle telling the kid about their origins. I think it's good that they require this, but I think it could probably have waited till after we know it *worked*. But for straight couples I suppose there are other issues to work out around using donor sperm, so I can see how they want it done first. Still, $240 is a lot for an hour of talking!!
IUI #3 gave us the best 2nd anniv. gift ever: 2 babies! (born 03/09/10)
Peanut and Little Man are getting so big! 2 years old already!
finally blogging again at This Will Be: An Adventure
Christine - I was so pissed that we had to spend $200 to talk with a social worker (who had the same credentials I did) and educate her about the finer points of lesbian parenting (resources in the community, books, etc.) I felt like she needed to pay us at the end.
I totally get why the have to do it with straight couples - and I apprecitate that they don't want to treat us any differently than them - but still annoying.
We have been talking, lots.
I've had the flu which has made my period horrible (and I was late! -- I am NEVER late).
Anyway we have the paperwork all filled out for a sperm bank and are going to sit down and choose our 4 "default" donors tonight (required for some reason to register). We plan to use most of our tax return to buy a total of 12 vials!
We are going to start in May since this period is so messed up, im worried the ovulation will be totally off ><
We are happy that no one can back off, and I am starting a blog (I will put a link in my signature sometime tomorrow).....
We think this is the most responsible way to do this and we are sooooo happy to think that sometime next year there's a good possibility we will be holding a baby!!!!!!!!
I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers! :baby dust to all!!!:
Seems like we are in a similar place - my partner has only EVER been late these two times we have tried....and we are looking at a May or April next try and have some of the same reservations about trying right away after a somewhat messed up cycle.
Hey - have you two looked at Midwest Sperm Bank in Chicago? Just a thought - they don't make you pay upfront, just when you have vials shipped, and they will hold some for you for no cost.
Greetings all,
This is the "other pea" writing. I just want to say thank you for being here on this board and being so supportive of each other. We have been on a baby plan for many many months and have tracked and pre-planned by going to the OB-GYN to make sure things were all good pre-trying...
This has been a very emotional road and knowing that we are not alone is huge...
so, thanks again! we both appreciate knowing that there are other souls out there trying to start happy loving families!
My best to all of you!
