How important is it to have a reported past pregnancy?
This is the main thing we are contimplating; like I mentioned before we have to choose 4 default donors.... we want blonde, red, or black hair and blue, blue-green, or green eyes (we are matching our donors physical attributes with E.M. and his parents/siblings).
We have agreed on one donor but are lost between 3 others ><
I found one we both agree on but...no reported pregnancy!
How important, in your oppinion, is a reported pregnancy?? Am I fooling myself thinking I NEED to only buy vials from a donor that has a reported pregnancy.
(There is a chance that this donor's sperm has caused pregnancy, it just remains unreported since the paper work signed does not require we tell the bank when we suceed.)
Thanks ladies!
Re: How Important... (Sperm Donor Q)
I don't think there is anything saying that it wouldn't work because he has no reported pregnancies, you could be the first
. You also said that the bank doesn't require you report it so you really wouldn't know. I actually thought that you would have to report it so thats new...
I would need to call the bank and get more info - for example, our top choice has no reported pregnancies...but, he's brand new. Our other choice has a reported pregnancy, but he's a popular donor and his rate of pregnancy is relatively low. So that stat can be really misleading.

I 100% thought I would be required to report but we aren't - I read the paperwork 3 times....trying to find it. If we choose to report a pregnancy we print a form off their site, fill it out, and return it to them.
I will definitley be reporting our pregnancy. We are hoping to have our first 2 children from the same donor -- this bank pulls all the unbought donor's sperm after 10 pregnancies have been reported - this is why we are buying 12 vials this month and storing them for a year - once we fget a BFP we plan to replace the vials used if available from that donor. The goal is to have all four children be full-blood [that is entirely not the correct term...] siblings; then cord blood can be shared [hopefully], etc.
Thanks for your oppinion - E.M. wasn't too sure and I guess that made me start worrying there might be something wrong with that donors sperm (lol... irrational fears!)
That's a good idea. Thank you.
We are already planning to pull our top 2 choices' indepth profiles but I don't think that those will tell me. Do I just call and say "I was wondering how popular this donor is"? ...the bank we are using only says (in the minimal profile) "reported pregnancy? yes/no" not multiple, one, etc.

Fantastic we will do that after we mail in the paperwork ...since I can change my 4 donors anytime I want by calling them.
I think they made us pick 4 to be sure we were serious - registration is free and will give us access to their ttc and pregnancy/family boards as well as more photos of children conceived using their donors.
I appreciate the advice!
We are simply... giddy! It's kind of like that "christmas morning" feeling!!
i think ct gave some good advice. we asked our clinic about it and they weren't concerned at all, but yours will have more info on the individual donors you're considering.
and just as a note, our donor had no reported pregnancies. clearly that's no longer the case.
Just a quick note as I am on my way out the door-- I'd be cautious about buying such a large quantity of a particular donor upfront. Some people end up having to switch donors for various reasons-- it'd be crappy to be stuck with a ton of sperm you don't want!
One alternative would be to buy smaller quantities now, then once you have a pregnancy buy the additional vials for future use.

finally blogging again at This Will Be: An Adventure
I second this!
oh, i totally read right over that. i agree. we started with one donor and only used him for three tries before switching up, then had three more tries with the second donor--one vial each time. i don't think i'd buy more than three months to start. put the money in a dedicated savings account instead, then you'll be earning interest on it in the meantime.
I like this idea, and so does E.M.
I do believe we will start with 3 vials of our 1st choice(from the two we are looking at intensely) and if no BFP we will try 3 of our 2nd choice!
Thanks for the insight!
It *always* helps to have someone who is an outsider give pointers!!
Thanks again ladies, I have no clue where id be during this process without your tips, and oppinions!
