Jobs(Always take this long?)
So since my moving to Nevada post,I have applied to many jobs. (We have to get our jobs in order to move), and it seems to be taking forever to get back to me from any of them. My mother who lives there said Nevada tends to be slow getting back to people due to the fact most places there do background checks, check employers...ect before calling for an interview. Have any of you ladies experienced this? I am also applying to positions I am qualified for.TIA!
Re: Jobs(Always take this long?)
Would you mind telling us what industry you are in? I think that matters. (sorry if you told us already, I can't remember). I know my job actually recruited me, yet it took 2 months for the hiring process between clearing me for security, checking my background, etc. Other jobs I've had have hired me on the spot and I've started the following week!
I have a friend who is a teacher and she said it took forever for her to get hired, even though i hear they really need teachers out here. some of the jobs that require a more thorough background check and higher security clearance just take long, unfortunately. Are you at least getting an acknowledgment that your application has been received and is accepted?
In all honesty, it depends on what you are looking for. There are some employers in Las Vegas that just like to scout to see who is out there and not really have a position available. I know when I first moved to Vegas in 1996 it took me 6 weeks to land a great job and I did. When the company I used to work for laid off all the Las Vegas personnel in March 2007, I looked for about a month and nothing was there so I opted to wait until after our wedding and honeymoon in July 2007. At that point it took about a month.
Keep your chin up and keep looking. Look not only in the paper, Monster.com but try craigslist, just be cautious.
Thanks for the responses! The jobs I am qualified for right now are administrative, clerical, and customer service positions. I am trying to get into either an entry level Dental Assistant or work as a receptionist in a Dental office. I am actually starting schooling once I move there to be an assistant, then Hygienist. I have applied to alot of jobs, it's just that they aren't even answering my follow up e-mails. I never realized trying to move somewhere and get a job could be so frustrating! LoL I should have known.
good luck!
