On February 12th I noticed that my debit card was missing from my wallet. I promptly called the bank and let them know and was issued a new card. About a week ago, I received a bill from Las Vegas Athletic Club stating that my account was past due and of course there was a $20 late fee tacked on. I'm thinking, "what the hell? It's automatic payment from my debit card!" I call to dispute it and of course at this point I still hadn't made the connection. The girl I talked to was UNBELIEVABLY rude. I am not exaggerating when I say that she would not let me complete a sentence. She kept cutting me off with, "how would you like to pay today?"
So I reviewed my bank statement and then it dawned on me that I had cancelled the card one day prior to when they normally pull. I called them back and said I would pay my normal monthly fee, but that I wasn't willing to pay a late charge, as the card was lost/stolen. At first, they tried to fight me on it saying that I still needed to pay the late fee and that it would be an addtional $6 to change my automatic payment information. Uh, no. How is it my fault that my card got stolen? Finally, they agreed to waive the fees if I could provide proof from the bank that the card was in fact cancelled and fax it to them. I did that the very same day and called them to make sure they received it. "Well, the lady who monitors all of our faxes is overwhelmed right now, so call back tomorrow." Fine. I explicitly stated that they were only authorized to charge my normal monthly fee.
Fast forward to yesterday, I had called every business day to ensure that they got the fax and received the same excuse every time. Yesterday morning before work DH checked our bank account for a charge of $26 from LVAC. He called and told asked them about the fax and got the same response of, "well, we get a lot of faxes." He went on to tell them that he has to read 200 emails per day and that his company deals with 500 different sites and LVAC has what, six locations? It want on similarly from there. Of course they quickly produced the fax (surprise, surprise) and apologized and said that the money would be refunded. DH told them that if it was not credited back to our account that we would be dropping both of our contracts with them, without any penalty fees.
UGH!
