All this vacation talk = new topic

Is a little depressing at the moment.  I want to leave for a vacation NOW!  lol

The new question is this ... which I am sure was posted somewhere but I never saw it and this board is a little slow so we are going to try again.  :)

What are you doing for Valentines?  Are you or did you do something special for your first Valentines together?

We have tried to do something special (even if it's small for those little first year milestones)  So I need some good ideas ... whatchya girls got?

  • What are you doing for Valentines? Are you or did you do something special for your first Valentines together?

Let's see, V-day is on a Thursday so we probably won't be doing anything considering the next day I am loading up 4 teenage boys (15-17 years old) and heading off to the Central CA Junior Olympics with them for 3 nights.  In all honesty, V-day is not a big deal for us because that is the day the ex and I got married over 15 years ago.  Blah!!   I think I might pull out the card I got DH three years ago and use it again with a hand written message dated this year for him.  Aren't we just the romantic couple???

The first  year DH and I were together I made chocolate covered strawberries and had some champagne waiting for him to get home only for him to have engine problems on the jet and he got home at like 3:00AM that night.  Oh well, we celebrated later on but the chocolate strawberries were a  big hit.

Since money is an object for everyone it seems like, why not create a picnic inside for two???  When kids were with their dad for Christmas Day this past  year, I did breakfast in bed for DH and I and it was a hit!!  Maybe hit the deli and get some meats, cheeses and make some strawberries (or even buy a couple), light the fireplace or some candles.  Then start stripping each other =)  LOL

Last year (our first married V-Day together), I was in trial so we couldn't make any plans that were set in stone.  DH and I decided to hit up a local bar with some good food, figuring no one would be there.  I kid you not, the place was SLAMMED!  It was at that moment DH and I decided we are never going to go out to celebrate V-Day, period.  We've never really celebrated V-Day in the 5+ years we've been together.  I'm just not that into it, nor is DH.

This year, I think I will just cook dinner.  I like the chocolate strawberry idea!

  • We try to not go out on Valentine's Day or the closest weekend to it. The wait time at restaurants is usually insane and the service is lacking because the wait staff is usually trying to handle too many tables. I'm thinking this year that maybe we'll get take out from somewhere nice and then get some champagne or something.
  • LOL... well aren't we all so exciting?

I guess I want to do *something* because technically it's the day that we started *talking*.  I don't remember what we did last year... I think I made dinner or something like that.  Oh yeah I made dinner for Tony and our BFF since he wasn't seeing anyone.  My making a big dinner isn't that big of a deal around here.  Hmmmmm

Any ideas on doing something sentimental for him?  I would really like to do something out of the oridinary.  :)

One year I set up an picnic for DH.  I packed up a little basket, chilled a bottle of wine, made dinner and dessert, and spread it out with candles in the center.  Of course, this is back when he was in school in Florida, so the weather was warm.  Maybe do an indoor picnic--spread out a table cloth on the floor?

I plan to watch our wedding video this year.  We received it just before Valentine's last year and watched it on the 14th, so I want to make it an annual thing! =)

  • Sigh.... I totally wish that we had a video of our wedding.  *sigh*

I think that I am going to do a powerpoint of a picture from each month of our first year together and maybe put the actual pictures in a scrapbook.  This all being said with the knowledge that I haven't really done wedding pictures in a scrapbook yet.  Although, I do have all the "proofs" from the wedding in albums so I guess that half way counts right?

  • Don't feel bad Lacey!  We have been working on doing our video now for 3 months and are only 50% done after we have been married for 7 months almost.  Maybe by our 1st anniversary it will be done.  As for photos, hell we have only gotten the one professionally framed and the rest, well one day I guess I will get the album done.

I really like the idea of a photo for each month.  To me, sentimental things mean more then material.  I would rather have the creative thought out gift then go throw down the cash type.

  • Unless its jewelry of course then that stuff is better. ha ha ha ha
