SO EXCITED!!!

Tomorrow I get my ring back and I'm so excited!  For those who don't know, I cracked my center diamond of my engagement ring.  Luckily I have insurance, but as you can imagine, I was totally freaked when it happened.  #1- I had no idea diamonds could crack!  #2-I have no clue what I did to cause the crack.  I don't remember hitting it or doing anything damaging.  #3-I hadn't looked into our insurance for years because I never had to.  Thank goodness it was still up to date!
It's not tied to my homeowner's insurance, I have a separate policy through an independent insurer.
My recommendation--if you don't have your ring insured, do it.  I never, ever though this would happen, especially since I take such great care of it.

Tomorrow I'm off to MJ Christensen to pick out a new stone, yippee!!  I'm sad I lost my old one (I'm sentimental, so I've had a hard time with the fact that my original stone that DH gave me is no longer), but I kinda feel like I'm getting a brand new ring!  Plus, shopping for diamonds is always fun, right!?

Re: SO EXCITED!!!

  • Holy cow girl!  That sucks and rocks all at the same time!  I wonder what you did to your ring to crack it... I would think you would have to do something pretty big to crack it, but that's just my opinion.  Crazy stuff.  Thank goodness you have your ring thru an independent insurer.  I've been told that it's a good practice to get your ring re-appraised every couple of years because diamond value changes and you don't want to get screwed out of money basically.  Just a PSA of sorts!

Soooo - are you going to get the same cut and size that your hubby picked out for you initially or are you going to do something different?
  • Shopping for diamonds is always fun but I completely understand how you feel.  Let us know what you get and thank goodness you had the insurance.  Note to self - see if there is an insurance policy on my rings!
  • Kim - you better get the notepad out.  We keep adding things to your to do list.  :)

That's the thing...everyone keeps saying I must have really knocked it hard to cause a crack, but I honestly don't remember hitting it!  I clean it every day (insane, much?) so I know I did it the day that I noticed it, otherwise I would have seen it while cleaning it.

I love the round cut, but mine is a princess and I think I'm sticking to that.  I thought about switching, but I don't want to hurt DH's feeling, ya know?  The good thing is, they have to replace it with like kind or better, so if they don't have a diamond with the exact same specs, I'm upgrading! ;)

  • I think you should ask him what he think about what he feels about it.  I mean you are getting a whole new stone so does it matter that much?  I say get what you want.  Btw ... the reason I asked is cause I have the same feelings.  I don't know what I would do in the end, but something to think about.  You have this opportunity after all right?  Anyway, have fun shopping tomorrow.  That's the bestest - shopping for diamonds!
  • OMG I would have freaked the f out! I keep bugging and bugging and BUGGING DH to get my e-ring insured and he keeps on saying it's pointless. Today I think I'm going to call and just add it myself.
  • RSP you have to get it appraised first.  But it's only a few dollars a month to insure and I know a number of people that have had to use that insurance.  Besides it's thousands of dollars - what if something DOES happen.  I would totally do it.  *says the one who hasn't had it re-appraised since we got married so it's not valid*  Does it count if I know it needs to be done???
  • When DH bought it he had it appraised, but that was in 2005 so I probably do need to get it appraised again.

Yeah, I think it has to be w/in a year, although I'm sure it varies by company.  I went to a guy over on Flamingo who charged $60. Not sure what the going rate is, but I figured that wasn't too bad.
