Desperately need help about maternity leave...

I don't live in Kansas, but my sister in law just had an emergency c-section and she doesn't know how to go about getting maternity leave. I read that Kansas doesn't have maternity leave, but that you have to go through Paid Medical Family Leave. How should my sis-in-law go about applying for this? Is it something she has to do through her work? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Re: Desperately need help about maternity leave...

  • It is something she has to go through her employer for. I work for a private company and I found out they do not have this benefit. I guess private companies do not have to get that but I'm sure everything else does. Have her check with her supervisor or the financial person where she works and they will be able to tell her how to go about doing this.
  • I work in Human Resources, she will apply for FMLA through her HR Representative, her company should have forms she will fill out. She should qualify for Short-term disability, which is 661/2 percent of her normal pay.
