Lynch Tiger? This dummy is bold!

January 09, 2008. HAWAII (AP) Golf Channel anchor Kelly Tilghman has apologized for a comment she made during Friday's second-round telecast from the PGA Tour's season-opening Mercedes-Benz Championship in Kapalua, Hawaii.

Tilghman and analyst NickFaldo were discussing young players who could challenge Tiger Woods when Faldo suggested they gang up on the No. 1 player. Tilghman, a 1991 Duke graduate, laughed and said, "Lynch him in a back alley."

Tilghman, starting her second full season as a lead announcer, apologized in a statement issued Tuesday by The Golf Channel. "I used some poorly chosen words," she said. "I have known Tiger for 12 years and I have apologized directly to him. I also apologize to our viewers."

Golf Channel spokesman Dan Higgins said he was not aware of any disciplinary action Tilghman might face. She is the first woman to be a full-time play-by-play announcer of PGA Tour events.

Woods did not play in Kapalua.
